So enclosing a camera in something that keeps the condensed moisture in contact with the camera is good?

Warm air can hold a lot more water than cold air. When a very cold camera is brought inside, water from the warm air begins to condense on the camera. If you put the camera in a closed container, a tight case or a sealed plastic bag, the warm air can't get to the camera while it's warming up and condensation doesn't occur. This isn't exactly rocket science. It's more like high school physics.

Re: battery life.
1. Don't chimp so often. When you must, make it quick.
2. Go to Menu, scroll to Auto Review. Turn it off

Works for me.
I also have the auto sleep function shut off. If I can't remember to shut the thing off myself, I'm in bad shape.
