I carry mine everywhere I go. I use it daily. Was out shooting when I pressed the shutter, nothing. I got an "Err" in the viewfinder and "Attention, Shutter fault" on the LCD. I tried two different fresh batteries and a new card to try to "reset" it, as well as reinstalling the firmware. No success. I guess it is going off to Leitz first thing Monday morning. My M8 died the same way, but was covered by the warranty. My M9's warranty has long since passed.

Has anyone else experienced this??

That sucks...while you're at it, get the upgrades Leica offers if you can afford it. Either way, you will get it back good as new.

Most upsetting when a camera like this one fails... One would think that the more you use it the better they get. Hopefully you'll be able to restore it to life without too much of a financial drain! :)

Wow, that sucks big time... but shouldn't you have a two year warranty? How did it long since past when the camera was released 9/9/09... did you get one of the first ones?

Bummer :(

U still have your m8? When they fixed your m8 did they say what ended up getting replace for this type of error?

Man that blows. I hope you can get it fixed reasonably fast and at a reasonable cost.

My M8 came back better then new. I still have it. I tell ya, it is nice not having to use UV/IR filters and having full frame. I bought my M9 as a factory demo and saved a bit of cash. It came with only a 1 year warranty. I just found out it is just under coverage! I sent off an email to Leitz NJ on how to proceed. I probably won't hear from them till Monday or Tuesday, but I'll give them a call at the beginning of the week.

The full upgrades are almost 2K. Not sure if I can afford a "cosmetic" makeover, no red dot or M9 out front. The saphire glass is quite expensive. I use a Schott glass protector over the LCD.

I've been on this forum for a while and I recall Leica had issues with the M8 now there are issues with the M9. Simply put this shouldn't happen. If other manufacturers of digital cameras can make dependable P/S and full sensor DSLR's Leica should too. Product failure at that price point is unacceptable. I don't think it's appropriate to even have a policy of 'repair' because these cameras shouldn't need repair unless there's "Pilot Error"

Leica really needs to get on top of it's "lack reliability" issue. These cameras should run like a "Swiss watch". Sorry about the bad news Keith

I dropped my first M9. I died a little inside.

The sensor in my replacement failed after a week. The repaired it free of charge.

Isn't the sensor from Kodak? In general, if the component that is failing is coming from third party then it is more of the quality assurance process of that third party, unless Leica is pushing the spec on the component which is causing it to fail.

It is still up to Leica to verify thru sampling that their suppliers are doing right by them, especially given the price that they are charging for m9.

It isn't acceptable at the price they charge for failure. I love the camera and the files it produces. I am now feeling I am unable to rely on it solely as the only camera I would take on an extended trip.

Some lenses just sparkle on this camera for the files they produce. Others really fall from grace. Full frame high megapixel sensors really show what your lenses are worth. There is no forgiveness optically. I'll be dumping some well liked lenses here on RFF in the near future.
