My most significant photographs of 2012

Commendable work... every one. I liked them all.

I have questions on technique if you feel open to answer.

You say you are shooting digital and film.

1) On the digital, are you capturing digital with the camera set to B/W?

2) Or, are you shooting color and processing to B/W in Post?

3) If shooting with camera set for B/W, are you using colored filters for effect?

Certainly understandable if you do not wish to answer my queries.

Fine work, indeed, regardless of how you get there. You definitely have an eye!

Thank you, much appreciated feedback.

1 and 2) I am currently shooting a monochrome camera which only captures B&W. So today I am shooting in B&W and processing in B&W with Lightroom and Photoshop, and also Silver Efex Pro.

Most of the images that I captured during 2012 were however captured with a color camera that captured in raw format and which was later converted to B&W in Adobe Lightroom / Silver Efex Pro.

3) I am currently using color filters when I am shooting. I mostly use yellow or orange filters, but I also occasionally use red and/or deep red filters, as well as a IR filter.

For film I mostly shoot color. I guess I'm kind of doing it the opposite way of most people: Digital for B&W and film for color. The reason is simple: Color film gives me a consistent and predictable result and I don't have to worry about white-balance issues, color corrections and all that stuff (that I really hate tinkering with).

For B&W however I love shooting digital as I frequently dodge and burn, etc.

Thank You

Thank You

Borge,

Thank you so much for responding to my inquiries. It's helpful to know you have exercised a variety of filter effects, capture and film variations. Also nice to know about using both B/W and Color Digital Capture.

A few years ago I switched my digital camera to B/W capture. Nice to find out that the nature of light and the physics of optics did not change with the arrival of digital.

I was pleased to learn that my various color filters still affected the final results pretty much as they did all those years with film.

It's not uncommon that I will go out some days with an assortment of color filters. Deep Red, Orange Yellow ,etc. and those with various filter factors requiring f stop correction.

Thanks for your information.

Again, great images all.
