We are lucky enough to live across the road from the beach - and only a 5-10 minute walk from "Dog Beach" - so whenever one wants to commune with a dog (or several) - we just go there and volunteer to throw sticks and balls!

Across the street from us - cafe Viva. They know me there, never have to order, medium dark roast coffee - and occasionally an indulgence like a cinnamon bun. This time of the year it is only the locals who are around - come spring and summer the place is teeming with people from the beach.
