my new black leica ii d

I saw this one in the flesh! What a beauty!
The IIIasyn works wonderfully Ron! I've paired it with a contemporary 28mm Hektor recently.

Yours seems to be a postwar conversion without synchronisation.

Yes indeed - it was likely converted in 1950 when the (then-) owner also added the Summitar and the 2,8cm Hektor.

am thinking more 28mm --- but need to have a summar, summitar, and radioactive cron to really have all the different textures

It's slooooow but the Hektor is an ok performer stopped down. I use it for street photography for the smallest possible kit: Tri-X, zone focus at 3m, and about f8 - never misses a shot. The 2.8cm Summaron, though similarly slow, will be a better lens, however. Still I like my Hektor a lot.

Mine has various guises ....

the summar arrived yesterday - the rangefinder patch is bright and clean, still got the claret leather, okaro filter, the ablon, the rosol finder and the scnoo winder are all in transit -- will be a funky week next week, expect some camera pron pics --

just out of curiosity, I don't know much about barnacks.. what would be considered a good price for a black paint Leica II in let's say 'good user' condition?

Maitani,

I've bought mine for EUR 350 and managed to negotiate a EUR 50 refund when it turned out the RF beam splitter had to re replaced. In the end, I could perform this myself pretty easily.
Spent another USD 230 on a nickel 3.5/50mm Elmar, which was a steal really. Guess I got lucky both counts.

There was a similar Leica II with nickel lens in the classifieds recently, DAG overhauled, asking USD 1099. I'd say that is a good price, and the camera is certainly worth it if you're the Barnack kinda guy!

sweet -- everything is here -ordered the claret leather covering from cameraleather- have ordered the ablon, the soomp hood and... coolest of all.... SCNOO winder -- am gonna really get this bad boy going --- now for a rasul finder, a canon 28mm 3.5 ltm, and eventually a 12mm --- what other accessories are there?????

Hi,

Did you get them in the original cardboard boxes?

It's tricky finding out when the print on the boxes went from gold to black and back again. I suspect the war but my wife (a scientist) says the "gold" could have been affected by some chemical and turned black.

And how about a copy of "First Principles for Leica Users" and the original "Directions" for that model?

Regards, David

No boxes
But may hunt down a red clamshell box

You guyz are tempting me, these lovely black Leica II cameras are beautiful. But no, I made my choice a couple of weeks ago and have been cleaning the Hasselblad 500CM I bought today. Ordered a bunch of stuff to use with it too. No more money for nice old cameras for a while ... I'd rather get a Sony NEX 6 body and M-mount adapter next.

a few pics from the first roll -- the summar f2.0 is keh ugl grade --- not too shabby

Indeed !

Indeed !

Mine is chrome but I still love it. It is very easy to pack around with my pre-war 50/3.5 Elmar. It also happens to take great black and white images, which does not hurt.

Indeed, your post made me think of a funny afternoon a few weeks back:
Took the M4 and II out and tried to work without a meter.
All of the pictures on the II came out perfectly, and only 2/3rds of those from the M4 were acceptable.

Of course, it is probably just luck...But in any case the II makes damn good pictures and it is so small in the hand...The II will always remain my favorite among the older Leica's, even compared to the IIIf.

Only one possible source...

Just trying to figure out a case / strap situation since there are no lugs and the winder

Any thoughts?

The only person around who can help you is Luigi of course.
I am sure he can whip one up for you. I just ordered a case for my lug less II from him. Once it is here I will feel much better walking around with my II.

I have used various cases form others, but in the end Luigi's stuff always looks the best, is perfectly made and lasts the longest. It is just the price that you have to cope with 😱

On a side note: I did buy his 'economy' case in black for my M4, and it was absolutely perfect and much better than some other brands that I won't name here. So I just decided to stay with Luigi and fork out the cash in future....

For a fraction of what you have invested already, get a Luigi case. Small money for preventing a drop and once a drop happens (and it will), you will be cursing yourself for not getting one....😉
