My "NEW" IIIc outfit.

Well, It's taken just over 6 months, 2 bodies, 3 lenses, countless hours looking through the "bay" and 2 Camera fairs. But finally my back to basics camera is finally complete!! 😀
It is a Leica IIIc circa 1946/47 with a PC Sync socket added at some point.
a 50mm f3.5 collapseable Elmar, with a hood of unknown origins (C&P?).
And a Leicavit winder. The first roll of XP2 will go in tomorrow 😀
Anyone else use one of these?
Seems to fit PUUUURFECTLY into my hands and with the Leicavit I don't have to
bother with the slightly annoying originalwinder.

I have a IIIc that I hope to get new shutter curtains in and a CLA soon. It was my grandfather's. Shooting that over a year ago (after sitting on a shelf for 27 years only to find to my dismay the shutter curtains needed replacing) is what got me back into rangefinders. A joy to use.

It would be even more of a joy with a trigger winder. How much does a user Leicavit cost?

I managed to find the Leicavit on the 'Bay' for 158 pounds, I know that they usually go for much more but this was a 'user' so I guess I lucked out 😀 !
I know that Tom Abrahamsson makes a Rapidwinder for Leica LTMs as well.

I just gravitated towards the III series myself. It's always nice to see how everyone outfits their rig. Your lens hood is one that I haven't seen before. I take it that it allows you to adjust the aperture withouth having remove the hood.

Yeah I'm trying to find out about it myself.
The hood slips over the front and is attached via a screw.
and you are correct the whole of the front of the hood moves and
allows you to adjust the aperture via a scale on the outside of the hood.
Does anybody know the manufacturer? the logo is a C&P in a ring/circle

I sold my 1940 IIIC, a few weeks ago and I'm still regretting it. 🙁

Really nice, compact kit you have there, Mike. I mean, it covers all of the bases and fits in the pocket of a good coat, no sweat.

I believe Tom's Rapidwinders are $425.00/£235.00, for the M3, with M2 versions being $100.00/£55 more. I don't see the price for the SM version, though I am guessing it would likely fall in at the M2 rate.

Mtokue, that's a nice-looking IIIc. I'm not certain but it appears to be in the 487,400 serial range. Mine is in the 474,100 range so they were made reasonably close to each other. They are fine cameras and you should be very pleased with yours. Congratulations on a nice outfit.

OK, Well the first roll of XP2 was a DISASTER! I hadent cut enough of the
leader prior to loading so I was exposing the same frame 36times :bang:
BUT the second roll through was Fuji Reala 800 Colour Neg.
To be totally honest I was expecting to only use this setup with B&W
But these resulta are making me think again!
Remember this is a 50mm Elmar from the late 1940s! Not bad Colour!
In fact I very much like the way the lens draws the image....

Don't underestimate the Elmar

I took a mid 1950's Elmar with me on a recent vacation. The results were more than pleasing. The following was taken using a IIIf fitted with an Elmar. Granted it was taken at f/11, so sharpness wasn't an issue.

Well, I must say that my M's are having a bad time as I seem to be
using the IIIc a lot!, Nice & compact, Although with the 21mm Avenon
and the 21mm Finder make it a little more bulky, Thought I'd post a
couple of Pictures, as I may be trading her (Avenon) very soon.

Oh and both have Leicavit and Rapidwinders attached! 😀
