I'm extremely happy with my latest purchase... It was, in fact, an irresponsible act, considering the circumstances: Nikon pulls out from making film bodies, Konica-Minolta follows suit, and Fuji announces a price-hike in their film products.

So, why did I fall for a Nikon AF F100?

'cuz it's incredibly kewl... 🙂

Besides, it's to SLRs what Leica is to RFs. At least, that's how I see it.

Now... I find myself with two Nikon bodies. I'm thinking on using one for "trade bait." Who knows... I may step into Sith territory! 😱

BTW, I could do this because my Contax G finally sold. I was good, and fed a purchase with a sale. 😉

What next? 😕

Heck! I'm gonna have me some fun! 🙂

A rational act Francisco. When Canon dumps their film bodies I will buy a new one of theirs just to have and use one of the last of a great era. Enjoy

The F100 is my favorite current Nikon body. Have not tried the F6, but the F100 is fast, tight, small, durable, and relatively cost effective.

Nice choice.

Francisco,
I fully support your choice in cameras, it's an excellent body, and now you'll even be able to buy some of those new Zeiss lenses!

To paraphrase the SAT's:
The F-100 is to photography as
Laetitia Casta is to lovely piece of ...

Congratulation - very nice body.

(My personal favorite in Nikon SLR is the F4 though 🙂 )

Well done Francisco !!! 🙂

The F100 sounds like a great piece of Nikon, however I'd rather go with Laetitia Casta instead 😉

Wise movement you did here with your Contax. My preferred Nikon is the all mechanical F2, but I admit that even the prosumer F-801 I bought for my brother a while ago quite impressed me.

If you ever step into the really dark side (DarkSLR), keep your eyes open for a cheap D1X, or even D2H or D2X.

Thanks for your support, guys. I did angle for an F4s (after all I was thinking about professional bodies to take on trips), and even found one for a very convenient price. However, this one came in at about the same cost, and, like the F4, it has retro-compatibility. In fact, I went to my favorite store last Tuesday, and not only did I handle an F100, but also mounted an AI Nikon lens on it... and was fascinated to see it meters with the old glass!

The F80 won't do that.

The semester just started and I don't have much time (or places) to run around taking pics, but I'll do my best.

And, Oscar, thanks for the tip about the other bodies!

Now... Hey ho, hey ho... 🙂 Off to work I go!

I agree with rover. When Canon does their final release I too will buy the last of an era. And my F-1's will be with me until they either fall apart from age, or there is no one to fix them.

Good luck with the new toy!!! (I'm wishing for a TLR!!!) 😀

Francisco, glad to hear you finally sold, took a while but .... patience paid off.

cheers, Jan

Never tried the F100, but owned the F5 and thought it was one hell of a camera. Everything about it was awesome. Unfortunately my M6 and 503CX where my go-to cameras and the F5 just sat. Took a big hit when I sold it, but FED new/used M6TTL purchase. Enjoy.

PS: nice CR pix. used to go there a lot. planning trip later this year. hasta la bye bye.

Congratulations, Francisco. I was selling my Nikon kit awhile back. I have a Maxxum 7, and was planning to stick with Minolta, and probably get a 7D. Well... 🙁

I think it was a good thing my Nikons didn't sell (as a kit) -- I may be shopping for an F100 soon, too. 😉

The F100 looks like a good camera, and you can't beat Nikon for backwards compatibility. Ai and AI'd enses will work with it properly.

The manual focus lenses are nice with an AF Nikon, the screen is very bright..

You know... I may keep the F80 after all... Now, it's not like I'm going to walk out lugging two Nikon bodies around. I can do it with Leicas, but not with Nikons.

I'll simply keep the F80 for macros: the fact that it takes a regular-Joe shutter release cable is simply invaluable. The other one will be my walk around body.
