My old family Contarex

It is a tear-inducing beautiful set. It's totally up to you, but just please don't sell it! Which camera would your grandkids prefer to find, some digital dead corroded Canon or this? This is going to cost me some sleep...

You're a photographer right? How could you not want to keep this?

Then again, your grandfather didn't use it much either it seems.

Never mind me. Please, carry on.

Well, I don't have the time right now to read through Henry's full writeup on the Contarex, though I've certainly read other portions of his site extensively. Not to get going on this whole topic again (a lot of bytes have been burned regarding Mr. Scherer's opinions already) but if you read the writeup, you are afraid to even touch the camera lest you break something. And, while he extols the Zeiss Ikon cameras and lenses as the best ever, if you read closely you realize that ZI's quality control left a lot to be desired.

After reading the article, i am glad i never invested in that Zeiss Contarex SE. The lenses are great, way better than Leitz/Leica of same time. my Nikon-F a way better choice, almost no repairs, all either my fault, dropping it or having used it as a shield, during exciting moments in a changing South Africa! My 2 F's are still working but the Photomic Ftn-meters are in one case dead or very untrustworthy in the other! The lenses may not be Zeiss but certainly still working after heavy usage in the Fashion World, Weddings and Tough Gritty Photojournalism.
Sell. Sell, quickly sell, the sooner the better.

Oh man, I didn't hit the Lottery last night, so I can't help you out there. It's a beautiful set, and any true collector would be glad to have it. I wonder if Zeiss made a more reliable body that uses the same mount?
