The "X" is the flash synch speed - it feels pretty close to 1/60th.
My P makes the same noises you describe, at 1/30 and 1/15 - like a little pendulum coming to rest.

Don't know if this will work, but I recorded the shutter sound and saved it as an MP3. I can only attached image, text or zip files, so I've saved the sound (.mp3) file into a zip file. Open the zip file attachment, save the mp3 file, then play it on your favourite media player.
