When I got to know about the Fuji X100, I knew it would be my everyday carry camera, but after having spent three years with it, I can't say it is what I'd expected. It's definitely not pocketable (though somehow I knew it wasn't) and autofocus is quite on the sloooow side, which I'd read it was but thought it wouldn't be that bad :-(

A smaller and quicker X100 would be my perfect camera, what camera do you think is the closest one existing today matching this requirements?

16mp epson rd1 with addition of portrait frameline and 4fps buffer.

oh yeah, and a sony a7s software package in a fuji xp body.

Wow - I want the "everything the best" camera

rugged ( water-resistant, sealed)
highest quality lenses (Leitz/Zeiss)
action - high frames per sec, fast autofocus
great low light a la A7SII
intuitive controls like X100's
size - not too big ( M43 at the most)
Full Frame
battery life - like Nikon DSLR 1000+ shots
IBIS - like E-M1
beautiful SOOC jpegs - like Fuji
2 card slots

I think that's it for the moment

I would like Olympus to stop messing about with micro four thirds and build the camera that the real Olympus fans want. A full frame digital based on the OM1 that will take all those wonderful Zuiko lenses that are out there. Nikon did a pretty decent job with their DF and it was generally well received ... I think Olympus should stop sitting on their hands and build the damned thing! :D

I'd have one in a heartbeat! :)

I would buy something like that.

I got a few fine OM Zuiko lenses laying around to use on it.

It's here. And it's called the Sony A7II. $1700 from B&H

You can use OM glass AND Leica S/M glass on it.

I'm saving my pennies for one.

My perfect camera

My perfect camera

Dear al.ert,

I'm a landscape and nature guy but I like to include both, for trees or hills without critters are just trees and hills.

Something with a 28-400 constant F2.8 with a 1 inch sensor able to take tele-converters would suit me fine.

Unfortunately it would weigh about 10 to 12 pounds so I know it will likely never happen.

I've decided to pretty much dispense with my DSLR's and go strictly P&S with what I carry. My Fuji x10, Panasonic FZ200, and Fuji S-1 will do what I want them to do.

Others I am sure will think and feel differently but I already know that I'll never take a memorable picture that matters to anyone but myself.

Regards,

Tim Murphy :)

Next one (or the one I just sold) :D On serious note, I already have a few. They're all film though. Perfect digital is only a dream due to cost, but my D700 + LX100 are both nice compromises.

My perfect camera would be...

...the one I am carrying when I leave the house.

Today it was the MM...

...tomorrow it could be the ......

Life is too short, use what you have and enjoy.

A digital Nikon FM2, but with the flip tab of the FM to allow for non Ai lenses.

That's it

No autofocus
No screen
Manual shutter cocking (like the Epson R-D1)

But it must also have:

Seamless integration with a smartphone app to judge exposure etc. and manage settings (white balance, auto ISO)

Support for 'G' lenses

I would pay Leica prices for a camera like that.

Thanks for the quick replies guys, I'm not as ambitious as to have everything in one camera, but my initial requirements do not include such a long list of musts.

I'm into street photography mainly, but also do travel, and the x100 is pretty good, albeit the downsides I just mentioned. I'll seriously consider some of the cameras you've posted to find my perfect match ;-)

For me, the ideal camera just looks like a Ricoh GR + a viewfinder, that's not much to ask!

A Pentax 67, that's the size and weight of a Mamiya 6, with the build quality of a Rolleiflex, but still dirt cheap.

As that camera doesn't exist, I think I've settled on it being a 3.5f.

The Nikon Df, the Fuji X-T1, the Fuji X-E2, the Leica M8 and the M6 come prety close.
