My Poor Parka turned red

I never understood the practice of putting down money for vaporware, which evidently is what a lot of these people did. See no product, feel no product, and in the end received no product.

Ok, if it is up to the early adapters to work out the bugs why should they have to pay full retail? Shouldn't they receive a substantial discount for their trouble?

It seems that only in the digital world (cameras, computers, software) is this type of nonsense tolerated. You surely would not put up with this when you purchase film or a lens. When dining out and your meal is half cooked or only part of it is served do you put up with that? How about buying a new car with 3 wheels and half an interior?

Personally I think that the rush to get a product to market asap overrides technical and quality issues. It's not just Leica. Look at Microsoft and Nikon and you will find they have rushed products to market before they were properly "vetted".

As long as consumers tolerate this crap we can look forward to more of it.

It's beyond me why it's necessary to issue blanket judgements about people who already have the M8.

I find it ironic that in attributing M8 ownership to the desire for some sort of prestige, you yourself express some smugness in somehow being "smarter" than those who purchased the M8. My intention here is not to bait you (or anyone) into an argument, but just to point out that comments like yours are completely unnecessary.

Let's talk about the cameras, not the people who own or don't own them. I'm a relative newcomer to this forum, but several recent threads have made me wonder if there's any point in seeking refuge from dpreview forum antics...

I have an opinion relevent to the M8 issues, and I am free to express it. You are free to disagree. I don't see a blanket statement, and my judgement is on the prudence of the M8 buying descision, which I was relating to the bigger issue of buying into the bleeding edge of computer technology which is a pretty well developed and established idea.

Did you consider this before buying?

Hm, if I understand all this than buying a Leica for

simplicity, i.E. just drop of Portra at the lab,
image quality, i.E. great glass which must not be compromised by filters,
low light capability, i.E. wide open slow shutter at high ISO

is not a valid proposition anymore.

Looks as if I stick to film for my rangefinder needs 🙂

P.S.: what was that? Digital Sensors not good enough for Zeiss' expectations at the moment?

If this will be going on for a long time, the M8 will end like the M5!
And then people will regret it in 20 years.

If needed, send your so called 'bad' M8's back to Solms, they will take care of them, 'grundlich' as ever.
Give Lieca a break, they are relatively new in the digi business (even at 4000 Euro for a camera).
 
I'm not happy about this, and I'm not happy about filters. It's an added expense that we should not have to deal with. But, I will wait and see what Leica has to say. Apparently, at least according to several posts on the Leica Users forum, they are aware, have a fix in the works which might involved sending the camera to Leica. THAT is a bummer, but; imagine the frustration at Leica? Not that we should empathize.

I don't believe Leica hasn't encountered these issues during testing. The reviewers were perhaps told that it is "pre-production firmware" and signed NDA, not veiled until thousands of people placed their orders. Whatever they motivation was (trying to win time?), they effectively compromised otherwise well-reputed reviewers and shot themselves in the foot. Hence I don't see this as technology issue but rather as questionable business practice.

I agree with you etherfarm.
But i guess belittling people is a way of making some feel good about there own opinion.
And to all that have invested in the M8 things will work out.
 
What I'm wondering is, surely Seal encountered this problem too while shooting Heidi and the kids, I'm sure they are fashionable dressed in black all the time. Why didn't he post about this?

Why didn't Sean, Michael and all the other "Pro" reviewers also see these issues? Makes you wonder eh?
 
Sorry to get too cheeky here, but I also noticed one other thing. In that LUG link, you can see the lady has magenta cast in her black hair. Thus we can conclude she is dying her hair? Now the entire internet knows...

That photo more than anything seems to show that PP will be a hacked solution at best. What if the 2 men were really wearing purple suits, but she was wearing a black dress (or even the man's tie for that matter)? I guess the magenta cast is no worse there than the first photo, but it's much more dramatic in this photo because the lady is in full focus and is a larger part of the frame.

I think it is great that guys like Sean are trying to work something up, which will allow current users to make the best photos possible. But it's obviously not a true long-term solution. The filters don't seem so bad anymore, compared to results like these (which I understand may be exceptions to the norm, etc...)

About ten percent of the male population has some form of color blindness. Like me, I can only see the tinting when it's really obvious, like in the coat. Once even posted a photo here with a magenta tinged sky. The M8 might be the perfect camera for me 😀

Hello:

The c390 costs 1/40 the M8 and is not a M mount. A summicron c has barrel distortion, tele-elmarits tend to flare, vulcanite drops off. leitz/leica has not been and need not be perfect-wait awhile, if the M8 is a good picture taking tool it will survive.
