full page/ link (the Nikon F page is under construction yet)

Actually theys are 5 Nikons now (incl. three Nikkormats). As far as I can see the NIKON F is in fully working condition. Amazing that she came with a brown everready case. Maybe a reason why the black hold so good on it over the years. Obviously her previous owner wasn't a professional...

How do you like it??

Cheers, Frank

Nikon F Photomic T. Black. Averaging Meter, not center-weighted. Manual Indexing of lenses. NKT Logo on the body in white? Or Nikon Label?

I like mine!

I like it,I like it,I like it...there I said it 3 times!
I like it even more if that Black F has a red dot next to the serial number:D

Frank...with 5 Nikons and a Nikon page under construction, may be your user name should be Sonnar2Nikkor?

Thanks guys... yes it has the Nippon Kogaku logo, but isn't a 64xx.xxx SN, no red dot, no tick mark lenses... way, that would have cost me a lot €'s more and I'm not going to be a Nikon collector! ;)

Probably it was sold as a set in 1965 (year of my birth) and used as such: 1 camera/prism - 1 lens. If I didn't know where it came from I would believe it was pre-owned by a German doctor!

I've searched for a while around with finders. Finding a good black unmetered prism will probably cost more than I paid for the whole set, and I'm even happy it has TTL metering at all. The Photomic FTn would be a better user prism and looks better, but otherwise somewhat historically uncorrect, so probably I leave it as it is.

Favorite to shoot with my small bunch of NonAI-lenses is the (center-weight metered, AE) Nikkormat EL anyway... (hell, are they cheap)

Of course, the S2 is the cutiest of all and used most!

Nice!

Are mercury batteries (PX-13) still available in Germany?

Yes, the unmetered prisms are very expensive. The only affordable ones are the ones which are starrting to de-silver. They still cost around $100. Black ones are even harder to find.

So, if my eyes aren't deceiving me, the S2 is nearly an inch shorter (length-wise) than the 'F', or is it just the angle? Wow, if that's the case, then there's no doubt about it: i need to have an S2 stat.

ps: beautiful F, by the way!

Much smaller than an F. Even a little bit smaller than an FM2.
Ok, that's it - i'm officially on the hunt for one, starting nnnnnnow. Thanks Vince and Brian.. info very much appreciated (even though i'll be eating dust for a few months after said purchase):D.

Okay, here's my S2's family portrait.
(I painted my S2's frontplate black about 15 years ago ... it was originally chrome).

My kitchen scale, which is about the same age as the cameras, gives the following weights:

S2 with chrome 50/1.4 -- 700 grams
FM2 with 50/1.4 -- 850 grams
F (unmetered prism) and 50/1.4 -- 1025 grams
F2 (with DP1) and 50/1.4 -- 1200 grams

The accuracy of the scale seems to be +/- 25 grams.

I just noticed that I do the same as you (apologise for the not-intentionally copywright violation), taped the name of my "working" cameras so they go less noticed in some places like Africa!
An this weekend I'll try a Full familly picture.... from S to d200!.. Now have to find a why for my wife go out for a couple of hours....

And it looks like it's broke and taped as a workaround... so less likely to be stolen.
I replaced all the (so nice....) Nikon straps with a good ones without any reference. That (so wounderfull...) yellow NIKON leters just scream "GET ME!".:p

Vince, what are you in the hunt for now? I'm lightening my closet a bit (I spent too much moving up to an F2) and might have what you are looking for. Perhaps a nice Apollo Nikon FTn, just CLAed.....
