My Second Attempt!

This is my second try at recovering another Yashica. It's still not perfect [IMHO], and I'm still learning what works and what doesn't. I've cut the patterns from the covering I'm taking off, but cutting it exactly right takes time and patience and I've found that you cannot hurry the process, and I'm still learning and trying different ways of doing it. The bonding agent still presents a problem, as I've tried several different bonding agents. Attempt number three will be coming out sometime this week.

I may try and redo the right side of the front. This vinyl was completely different from the MG-1 I did in brown vinyl. Easier to cut, but harder to bond.

wow.. that looks really good! What did you use for a bonding agent. I like camera leather covers, but they're a bit pricy for the cool ones, and being in Canada it might take even longer than his already notoriously long delivery times 🙂 I'd like to try doing it on my own.

I've utilized several different bonding agents, but really haven't found one that closely resembles whatever Yashica had originally used. It's interesting that the covering peeled off my MG-1 very easily in one piece, while the coverings on the GSN came off with difficulty. I'm really looking for a bonding agent that doesn't produce a permanent bond. One of the fabric stores recommended one but it will produce a permanent bond so I didn't try it. So far, a white glue that dries clear appears to be a fairly good choice, but messy to apply, along with some very cheap Chinese contact cement [$1.00 per tube] when it's used on just one surface not both surfaces. I've also used Elmer's spray adhesive, which is the easiest to apply, but unfortunately doesn't hold on the corners and bends. I'll keep experimenting until I find what I'm looking for.
