These are the kinds of images I get from 50mm, on RF, SLR and mirrorless:
... M9 - I Am Number Four...
Very nice catch. You were alert to get that!

My frustration with 50mm lenses is: you have this big, bright & brilliant range finder, and when you use a 50mm lens, you throw away half of that gorgeous view and all you're left is a small bit in the middle! ...
Yes, agreed. That's why the M3 is so much better. The samples you've shown are from the post-M3 Leicas (probably M6). In those photos, Leica actually demonstrates the detriments of their own frameline complexity and reduced-magnification image.
...
If I were to design a rangefinder, I would include optics that moves into the optical path and enlarge the 50mm field of view so you get the same large native rangefinder field of view.
...
That would be a clever solution. Perhaps Leica or others even thought of it, but the idea got nixed due to costs and manufacturing complexity. The closest to that idea we have today exists in the Fuji X-series hybrid viewfinder, where even when using the optical view (rather than electronic view), the image changes. However, the Fuji X is not a rangefinder.

Yes! That was taken at a train station in Tokyo (or was it Osaka?). Those four were standing there, and it was a perfect tableau which suggested the traditional 'falling in line' of Japanese society, and the one rebel who looks away, striking out on his own. I was really happy to capture that.

I also liked the Prisoner-style reference in your title.

I got myself the X100F with the 35mm equivalent about 1.5 years ago. I love the camera, but I have been a 50mm shooter for 20 years. So, a few days ago I got myself the cheap Fujifilm X-T100 and the 7artisans 35mm f/1.2 (no I am no sharpness/ or pixel-peeper) to get a 50mm equivalent as well. Now I have the best of 2 worlds. F8 and be there (or in my case, mostly f5.6 and be there
)
