Was there some type of “burst” mode change that was turned on inadvertently?

i can't find a burst mode in the menu ... the three pics look to be the same ... no change in shutter sound ...

Sounds like that or your bracketing function has been turned on. Look at the drive settings, located on the navigator wheel on the back of the camera.

If the shutter is firing once and you are getting three you probably have film bracketing turned on. Press drive (top of command dial) and set it back to still image.

You may have engaged bracketing. See page 38: https://dl.fujifilm-x.com/support/manual/x/finepix_x100_manual_en.pdf Cheers, OtL PS. Thanks for the seat update!

The command wheel and the button in the center are rather twitchy, you have to be careful. I have to use the edge of my finger on the button or I set off something I don't want.
