I hope you are all staying safe and that your families are safe and well too, as some of you may know I retired from a 34 year peri op and critical care career in late December, I went from working eighty hour weeks, (in full PPE) to a quite unnerving state of nothingness. My first Christmas not working in those 34 years was quiet and unsettling, I did not know what to do with myself. I had a few weeks off, mainly sleeping and listening to music and perusing this forum! At this point the UK was in full lockdown, about twelve weeks ago, she who must be obeyed suggested I move my limbs and 'blitz ' the house! I live in an old Victorian Terrace house that was once owned by a Victorian sweet manufacturer who supplied sweets in tins to the troops of the British Empire, (I digress), and so the blitz started, I removed decades of paint and plaster, uncovered hidden features, rendered and plastered, sanded, painted, .....restored just about every hidden original Victorian feature......twelve weeks later all that's left to do is lay a tiled floor in the hall! My finishing of the house blitz coincides with the partial reopening of the UK. I have told the wife, (commander in charge) that I shall be having a few weeks off while I start the M2 retirement project, anyway I thought the M2 might need company so I have added a Hasselblad 500 CM and a Rolleiflex to the project/camera arsenal! So I better get out there before the wife decides to give me another means to occupy my time.

Congratulations on retirement. When I retired, I also had to do house renovation work, not only on our house, but on my son's and daughter's houses. My daughter's house involved complete rewiring and drywalling the walls and ceilings. Now I have paid my dues and can enjoy photography and working on my old car.

Congratulations on your retirement. The M2 should be a good companion as you explore your new world. Have fun, and share some of your images from your journey.

Best,
-Tim

I know how that feels. Both sons have jobs for me too. Glad you now have time to enjoy your photography.

Congrats. Nice photos, nice house. I'm always very impressed by people with good manual abilities, I'm such a disaster !

Keep us updated with your M2 project, please!

Its strange, when you have to fit decorating and restoration around a day job it becomes a chore, when you have time on your hands, you do not rush as much and dedicate more time to it. I'm planning to get out with the cameras next week.🙂

Ha, ‘she who must be obeyed’. Peace in the family, priceless.
My response when my missus speaks is, ‘yes, my little piranha fish’, Basil Fawlty’s reply to Sybil’s call.
On retirement, I bailed at 62, ten years ago, and never looked back. We own a house (well not really, all you ever own is the right to pay taxes) but, at least right now it’s the cheapest place to live, even with maintenance.

That’s a beautifully carved detail nicely preserved. You have some skills on the renovation front.

No-one here would advise to just go out and get those three cameras. But if you asked me and insisted you wanted three different classics those are the three. Or would have been till I discovered the IIIf....

Yes 'her in doors' , 'she who must be obeyed', and 'my little piranah', all classics, funny how you never saw Captain Mainwaring's wife, or Arthur Daily's either, made their fear more funny! Always best to keep the better half happy!

Hi Richard, I have had and used a few Barnacks, do not tempt me, I nearly pulled the trigger on a delayed action IIIf red dial the other day.........but I have a, (rather large) bill to settle with a Blacksmith who is building me some bespoke iron benches for the dining room!

Buy a boat.

Then the house will never get finished, you won't be able to afford cameras and you won't take another photograph!

funny enough my other passion is fishing, I have had a boat before, owning a boat is like standing under a cold shower trying to keep warm by burning £50 notes in your hand😀

Well done with the restoration work Mike. I’ve still two years before my retirement. Sadly it’s my body that could with restoring. I’m knackered after four days of gardening...... and then it snowed! Nice history about your house. Now the UK lockdown appears to being lifted I too am looking forward to getting out and about. I’ve bought cameras that haven’t even had a roll through yet.
