My Christmas present arrived from my sister in the UK today.
A wonderful Zorki-4 with a very beautiful Jupiter 8 stuck on the front.

The camera is very clean, all the shutter speeds fire properly and well. And the Jupiter 8... fantastic! <drool>. In short it's in better shape than my current CZ 80mm T* on 'blad right now.
She can buy cameras and lens on behalf any day of the week now!

I look forward to many days of pondering-
"Did I wind it on before changing the shutter speed..."

Really nice, Stu. The Zorki-4 is one of my favorite FSU cameras.

I don't have a sister though. Can I adopt yours? :D

Back in January, 1976, I spent two wonderful weeks in your beautiful country. I was at an air base near Palmerston North and just outside the town of Bull. A very cold two weeks but still one of the most enjoyable times I've spent anywhere. Do you still have Lion Brown beer? Great stuff.

The J8 is an impressive lens; I need one in LTM. I use them on my Contax IIIa and Nikon S2; some filing of the lock pin is required for them to fit on the latter. Their performance is 1st rate.

Back in January 1976 I was twinkle in someone's eye, the world still had 11 months to prepare for my arrival.

Ohakea Air Base. Pretty much our only air base now considering the government has closed down Whenuapai and Wigham. That psrt of the country is known for it's cold and wet weather.
The town is called Bulls, yes that's right Bulls.

Bad as Fosters and no they stopped making a while back. Lion Red is still being brewed. Then again I like Millers Draft and should shut up.

Yep, Ohakea RNZ Air Base. (I remembered the name OK but not the spelling.) They had a Gloster Meteor on a post at the main gate IIRC. I have lots of pictures of the NZ AF A-4's. I didn't have my camera with me the day they brought NZ's oldest living Air Ace to base and showed him our F-4's and the A-4's. Your Ace did his flying in Spads or Sopwith Camels in WW1. I want to say he was the winner of the Victoria Cross but wouldn't swear to it.

I didn't recall the plural name "Bulls" but do know that some of our GI's bought small souvenier bottles of "Bulls' Water" to take back to Okinawa where we were stationed. 1976 was the first of the "Triad" military exercises combining the forces of NZ, Australia and the US.
