My XA is out of alignment?

Hey all.

I put my XA on a tripod, put it to the minimum focusing distance (85cm), found an edge, and moved the tripod until the images lined up. I measured it with a measuring tape, and it read 60cm :S The weird thing is, infinity subjects line up. Whats wrong with my XA?

I don't have mine in front of me, but CameraQuest lists the minimun close focus distance as 2.5 feet, or about 76cm. Regardless, 60cm would be wrong. You were measuring to the film plane, yes? The RF is adjustable, but you must very carefully remove the sliding door. I would do some more testing. What are you using as your distance for infinity?

Yes, I was measuring to the film plane. I'm not really up for doing DIY camera repair, I'd probably mess something up. I was using a telephone pole around 150m away for infinity.

Hopefully someone else will come up with something useful for you. However, I would perhaps try a little further for infinity. As to the close focus, I don't know how much difference that makes unless you are going to be max close a lot of time. A 35mm lens has more DoF than a 50, and your max aperture is f/2.8. Have you taken photos with it?

I shoot fairly close a lot. I've shot a few rolls with it and I have noticed some misfocusing on interior shots(shots where I'd shoot wide open, for example)

In your test, when you move the camera to the minimum distance (85cm) does your rangefinder looks off?

The rangefinder base is so incredibly short on these cameras that what you consider lined up enough on the rangefinder might still be a little off.

Mine is out of alignment too! Any more information about how to adjust this by removing the sliding door? Is there a guide somewhere?

FINALLY! After searching for what seems like forever (I've been trying to find a solution for months) I finally stumbled upon this guide to open the cover. It can be seen HERE
