The old girl's having hair problems.

I noticed a light leak and it is because the seals around the upper part of the back are shot.

I have used various stuff in the past to fix leaks like this, but someone posted not long ago about some compressible foam that people are using now for these leaks. I lost the link. 🙁

Anyone remember what that stuff was?

Tom

PS: Even the light meter still works!

Oh, goodness, I hope you didn't pay a bunch for that!

I beileve the original from the FSU was... a twine like substance. I have some of the original (?) from a Kiev, and it looks just like my gardening twine, if only finer.

If you have a REALLY sharp knife you can get a piece of black felt at a craft store and cut strips. Gluing it in is work. Also, MicroTools sells the foam in very narrow strips--it may be adhesive backed -- can't remember.

I use a rotary paper cutter to slice my felt. It makes it possible to cut it rather thinly. I believe that the pre-cut foam strips that Micro-Tools sells is available with or without adhesive backing. The type I have now has the adhesive. It can be a bit tricky to get into the narrow channels without getting the VERY sticky adhesive backing caught on the sides!

I've given some thought to the cord used as a light seal in the channels of some cameras and if I ever have to replace any I think I'll try black yarn. I don't know if they make any that's not as fuzzy as most I've seen. However, a fabric store may have something better. I've not checked. Whatever is used must be pliable enough to form around the edges of the camera back and seal off the light.

Hope you get this up and running soon! Is that a P-6 extension tube in the picture?
Very pretty.

Good catch Rob.

It is a P-6 to Canon EOS adapter. It allows me to use all my Zeiss Pentacon mount medium format lenses on my Canon 10D.

That is one of the nice things about Canon digital SLR's. You can get an adapter for almost ANY lens system... and the meter still works! You have to meter stopped down, but it works.

By the way, here is a neat feature of the adapter that I did not find out about until I bought it... it is a two-piece adapter. Someone on another board somewhere (forgot the source) mentioned getting one of these that came apart. The part that fits the Canon is held to the part that fits the P-6 mount by set screws. Take them off and voilà! there is a set of m42 threads on the inside! You get two adapters for the price of one.
