my zorki 4 just...dead?

my zorki 4 gives me bitter-sweet mixed feeling.
it's a pain to use...literally, the winding knob makes my fingers hurts...
the vertical alignment is off a tiny bit
most of my first roll have half a frame over-exposed (because the curtain is closing sloooow at a certain speed which i don't remember which)
but the "better half" is promising,
the image is good and the color bright.

so i dropped in a second roll...i use 400asa at fixed 1/60sec f5.6 (i was going to use it like a Lomo)
it was good at first
but after about 20 frames the shutter release button did not work properly and i can wind the winding knob forever without cocking the shutter...😡

add: it is not stuck at the Rewind mode

Now thats odd. I took my Zorki 4k out last week and after half-a-dozen shots, the film advance just kept turning without advancing the film. Thinking that I might have turned the collar to rewind, I tried to rewind the film but no go. Lots of charm these Z4s but you would not take them seriously, I believe

Shaking mine and swearing like all hell broke loose seems to fix mine every time... ( I guess the shaking ... the swearing helps me get over it :bang: )

The shutter button centre can be locked down by pressing and twisting. When down it allows the film to be wound on without cocking the shutter. Has this got engaged?

Edit: to add, I think that its purpose is to allow for the shutter to be locked open on the B setting for long exposures. This has the side effect that the film can be wound whilst the button is locked down.

i left the camera in the deep of my closet at the office,
i will try it tomorrow.

Happens to mine a lot, too. I just screw in a cable release to clear it, has always worked.

tried to play around with the shutter release button, it can lock the winding now but the curtain shutter still wouldn't fire.

the cable release method did not work for me either...may be i should drop it on the ground????

Hi,

Better still, send it to Oleg and he'll make it as good as new and that was pretty good. And it won't cost an arm and a leg, unlike most other cameras, which also have to be repaired from time to time. I've bills and estimates from Leica to prove it. Would you believe nearly a thousand pounds to do an R5?

Since my previous post I've worried and searched for the estimate.

It was for only about £900 and of that nearly 300 was for cleaning and adjusting the lens.

Add to it all the cost of the estimate and the total was a little over UKP 900.
