Mysterious disappearance of Epson Raw

When I first got my Epson R-D I was able to open Epson's Raw processing software and use it on my Mac (Panther OS X at that time), however when I started using Photoshop CS I couldn't find the Epson raw software anymore. It simply vanished from my computer. I have seen some posts here suggesting that the Epson raw software doesn't work on a Mac, but, as I said, it did work, at least for a while. I have now upgraded the Mac to Tiger OS X and I just got PS CS2, which I have only just started to figure out. Although I want to learn about batch processing and intend to use CS2 for other things, I miss the simplicity of the Epson raw software and wish I could find it and use it again on my MAC. Suggestions? Answers?

The raw software you get from Epson for Mac is a Photoshop plug-in --- it needs Photoshop as a host.

If you've upgraded Photoshop versions, your Epson plug-in probably is still in the plug-ins folder for your PREVIOUS version of Photoshop. If you deleted your old Photoshop folder, then oops!... the plug-in probably went with it.

Another possibility: depending on which Installer option you selected when you upgraded from Panther to Tiger, the MacOS Installer may have re-created your Applications folder, in which case (again) your Epson plug-in may have been left behind.

Easiest fix for either problem is just to get out your Epson CD and re-run the installer for the plug-in.

I just ran the installer (EPSON Raw Plugin installer) which said it had been successfully installed, but I can't find it anywhere. Where would the epson plugin be located after it is installed and how can I gain access to it?

for photoshop cs2, the default location seems to be:
/Library/Application\ Support/Adobe/Plug-Ins/CS2/File\ Formats/

to use it from photoshop, the open file dialog will let you select the epson raw format (and thus the epson raw plug-in) from the drop down box at the bottom.

i'm not sure if you can trigger it from adobe bridge.

thats the loation for Adobe Camera Raw

My Epson Raw is located in /applications/Adobe Photoshop CS2/Plug-Ins

Bridge triggers ACR, everything else triggers ER.

that's where my epson raw plug-in was also. maybe i had manually put it there..

i ended up re-installing just now because i was getting a "cannot find language file" dialog. this time it couldn't find my photoshop directory, so i had to manually pick the plug-in directory.

Thanks butter71. I had been having a "cannot find language file" warning from my initial install. I have PS7 and OS X 2.8 on my home computer. At first my attempts to re-install didn't work. Then I found the problem was that I have Photoshop Elements on the hard-drive as well. It was only after I changed its name to Adobee Photoshope elements, did I get an option to manually select a folder. So now I can use the plug-in as nature or Epson intended.

Meanwhile in the meantime I came to like RAW Developer very much. So I will likely just use the Epson plug-in for black and white.

(I realized another mistake I made when I initially tried to install it. After it initially installed in the Photoshop Elements sub-folder, I copied the plug-in to my Photoshop plug-ins folder; obviously (now anyway) this was an incorrect and incomplete install.)
