Mystery: Why can't we walk straight?

Well, this NPR film answers a lot of my questions, but I have no idea why we can't do it:😛

I know the answer however, I’m not telling, but I’ll give you a clue. All blind people walk straight.

This is true but it is not the reason we circle walk blindfolded. Here is another clue. Stand straight and lift one leg about 12 inches off the floor. After a few attempts you will be able to stand without falling. Now do the same thing with your eyes closed. You will not stand without falling. The answer to the mystery is one word.
