thanks for sharing. I only became aware of James Nachtwey's wish and TED prize earlier this week. I was moved by his presentation at TED (available online). He is not only a gifted photographer, but also a writer. I will be heading out tonight to one of the locations in New York City that will broadcast his wish on giant screens.

IMHO, this is the type of work in which photography reaches its apex as a medium. If just a small number of people sit up and take notice of the stories Nachtwey is telling, or maybe even take action towards them, then his dedication is worthwhile.

I saw this in the recent issue of Time magazine. Beautiful work. I can only hope that the news industry can still see the value in top quality photojournalism and the message it can convey without words.

However, we cannot be reliant on the news business because they are in it for the money -- witness Paris Hilton. The few of us that can reach this pinnacle of image-making must soldier on and make every effort to bring images like these and others to the public. Photographers must lead.
