I haven't seen one of these threads recently, and the rain here in Northern California is driving me crazy, so I decided to start one.

Rules of the thread: You can choose a maximum of 2 bodies and no more than 4 lenses. Any format goes and, because this is RFF.com, at least one body must be a rangefinder. Price is no object, but you will be wedded to this kit for 10 years, so choose carefully. Anyone who violates the rules of the thread will be forced to troll at Photo.net for 1 month. 😀

My Kit:

Leica MP, Black Paint, 0.72.
Epson RD-1s

Zeiss Biogon 25mm f2.8
Leica Summicron 35mm f2.0 (pre-ASPH)
Leica Summilux 50mm f1.4 ASPH
Leica Summicron 75mm f2.0 ASPH

With the RD-1s 1.5x crop factor, this would give me an effective 35/50/75 kit in both film and digital. The MP for b&w and the RD-1s for color. Only about $14,000. 😡 I thought about a medium format body, but being able to share lenses with film and digital bodies would be ideal.

Kit two:

Contax IIa

21mm F4.5 Biogon

Wayne

Leica MP 0.85, Summilux 75/1.4 and 35/1.4 pre-ASPH (much much nicer bokeh)

D'oh, I still have one body and 2 lenses to go ! Quick ! Throw in a Hassy with 2 cool lenses that I've never heard of ! Just kidding (though it's one of the cameras I admire).

The most practical dream kit is a carry-everywhere kit with the quality of finish we all love. D'oh, I've ordered it already (iiic+Summitar). Where is the mail man when you need him ?

Peter.

There are more than one "dream kit" I would think of.
The reason why is that one thing is what I would like if it was possible for it to exist, and other thing perhaps different, what I can get (it is what really exists today).

I´m, a Contax fan (don´t say that the camera I´m using most of the time is the Yashica E35 GS(T)N), so I would like the Contax today, it is the original C II of 1937 with the added benefits she would have got if ZI engineers were allowed to improve it and change the things that usually make this cameras not the fastest in earth, and all of the "design mistakes" she has.

I would like to have a Contax IV with this features:

A more rational lens mount (single fixed mount and in-lens focusing helicoid),
Frame switching (Leica style) or zoom VF+RF from 28 to 135 mm
TTL Cds metering
Lever wind + shutter cocking (same shutter as original)
Hinged (but replaceable) back
CARL ZEISS Lenses!

It´s a dream, isn´t it?

Ok, back to reality, this camera will never exist it´s only an extrapolation of something I was discussing with a friend some days before (it is what would be if the Contax were still roduced by the orignal ZI), and is not the actual ZI. The actual ZI is a nice camera, but... battery dependant.

A real world choice for me is a Leica MP in black and an M6 or M7 also in black, plus a single set of lenses of 28 / 35 / 50 and 90 mm.

It´s nice to dream.....

Contax IIa with 21mm f4.5 Biogon... still searching for one of these! 🙂

AND if I win the lottery...

ALPA 12SWA with the 38mm Biogon for film and Schneider Apo-Digitar 5.6/35 mm XL with Phase One P45 back for digital... schweet!!!

MP .85
Mp .54

50 1.4
75 1.4
24 2
35 1.4

hmm...i still want the 90 and the 21 too...ok I'll trade one of my imaginary MP's for some of your imaginary lenses...

Guess my dreams are a bit different. For lens a Jupiter 8 50mm and Mir 35mm. Two bodies? Hmmm, Zorki 4K and... Carmen Electra. Hey, it's my dream not yours ok, LOL.

Hmm... 🙂 I seem to be pretty near that goal already...

Canon 7
Leica CL

Screwmount lenses:
35/2.8
50/1.8
90/4

M mount lens
40/2

I'd prefer a couple of more lenses for some increased flexability, but if I couldn't get anything other than what I have in my bag sitting here next to me for a decade, well, I'd be fine with it.

Black MP 0.72, 35/2 ASPH, 75/2 ASPH
Contax RTSIII, 28/2.8, 85/1.4

After the 10 years, the second set will likely be replaced by a digital system.

Hmmm... maybe if I sell everything I have right now...?

Leica MP w/ 50 and 90 lens

Hasselblad 500C/M with digital back (and my existing A12 backs).

At the risk of sounding bad... after much toiling and sweating, I almost got my ideal kit: Leicas and nice, wide-angle lenses that don't require an additional viewfinder (28, 35, 50, 90 & 135, and two M6TTL bodies).

Now, one thing I really want to have some day... A Summilux 35/1.4 aspherical in silver. After that, I'll die a happy man.

Let's hope it happens many, many moons after its purchase! 🙂

Living the dream...

Alpa 6b (or 8b, 9d -- it doesn't really matter), 50/1.8 Macro-Switar, 100/2 Kinoptik APO, 150/2.8 Kinoptik APO, a nice selection of Angenieux's, and a few other obscure Alpa lenses.

Contax IIa (or II or I), 41/4 cm Biotar, 25/4 Topogon, 50/1.5 Sonnar, 35/2.8 Biogon, 21/4.5 Biogon, 28/8 Tessar, 50/3.5 Tessar, 85/2 Sonnar, 35/3.5 Planar, 35/4.5 Orthometar, 180/6.3 Tessar, 35/2.8 Biometar, and a few others (hope I got all the funny names right -- this stuff really isn't a big deal with me and like I said...I'm too lazy to go dig it all out 🙂).

Nikkormat FT3, 45 GN Nikkor, 58/1.2 NOCT, 55/3.5 Micro-Nikkor, 50~300 ED Zoom.

Rollei SL66, 40/4 Distagon, 50/whatever (too lazy to go look), 80/2.8 whatever it is, 120 Macro-Planar, 150/4 Schneider, 150/? Distagon, 250/ something or other Zeiss, and 500/? Tele-Tessar...I no longer have a wish list. Well, not entirely true -- still looking for a 75/1.5 Biotar in Contax RF mount.

There are other cameras around here but these are the ones I'm fond of.
