Naming a camera!

Every time I hear of cameras or lenses called by cutsey names, I cringe.
To me, it's an unnecessary affectation akin to talking babytalk to small dogs.

I totally agree ... and so does Bruce ... and all the other Bruces agree as well!

Cheers ... Bruce.

😀

Generally I stay away from this sort of silliness because it takes the whole obsession with gear a little too far ... but now and then you own a particular camera that just begs for a name!

I think someone officially called their M5 'Bigfoot' a while ago which I always thought was pretty appropriate and now having owned my 67ii Pentax for a few months I've decided to call it 'Shrek' ... for obvious reasons I guess! 😛

Just so I'm not alone in this folly can someone else join in and reveal their secret name for their most charismatic camera? 😱

Hey, Keith...got a picture of that Pentax?🙂

I thought you'd never ask!

Meet Shrek. 😀

Great thread Keith!

My user name comes from a nickname my wife gave me for wearing a t-shirt with a big drawing of a Rolleiflex on it. We're slowly coming around to calling the camera "the Robbeiflex" as well. I returned the favour by naming my bike after her - "the Freddie Merckx"! 😀

Cheers,
Rob

Don't start calling 'em Bruce or we'll all need to get licensees for 'em and I don't want to get stuck in line behind the guy with the Halibut...

I'm with you about "cutesy" names, let alone talking to dogs (cringe). I mean, barking commands to dogs are normal, but talking, as in to people, that's just... umm, not normal.

... but sometimes you can't avoid cutesy names when you have a young daughter.

I call my Nikon FM2, "Nikon FM2".
I call my Nikon F3HP, "Nikon F3" though if it were to have a name it would be "Beater"
I call my Hasselblad 500CM, "Hasselblad"
I call my Graflex Super Graphic, "Graflex 4x5"
I call my Horseman 4x5 View Camera (honestly not sure the model), "Horseman 4x5"
I call my Rochester Optical 8x10 "Ideal" View Camera, "A long term project" (I got a chance to get it dirt cheap, and don't even have a lens yet)
I call my Canon G11, "G11"
I call my Nikon D300, "Nikon DSLR"

I call my Leica M6 TTL, "M6" or "My Baby". Out of all these camera's the only one I've had less time is the 8x10, and the M6 is the one I'm the fondest of. Of course that might help explain why I'm on this forum! 🙂
