I'm still waiting for the mailman to drop off my latest 'bay aquisition.. a Kiev 4a previously residing in the Ukraine.. I was just reviewing the auction description and photos and realized that I don't see a take-up spool/cassette.. nor is it mentioned anywhere in the description.. I'd hate to get the camera, and not be able to do anything with it because of that..
so, does anyone have a spare spool? I'm also looking for 2 lens covers and a 40.5mm UV filter

thanks Paul... that's one of those "d'oh! why didn't I think of that?" ideas

One thing I watch on e-bay purchases (in addition to checking out the seller) is making sure that a takeup spool AND a lens cap are included. Oddly enough, one camera that I ordered from Yuri at Fedka arrived without a lens cap. That can be dangerous with RF cameras of any nationality.

Why? If you have no lens cap you will never forget to take it off before the click.

And on a kiev there is no shutter to burn.

yeah, but that's the fun of RF's.. having to take a photo twice because your first attempt is an underexposed shot of your lens cap
I know I don't need a lens cap for the Kiev.. but considering how much my cameras get banged around in cars and backpacks, etc, I'd really feel better about it.. and I'm no fan of neverready cases

If you need lens caps for your Jupiter-8, I just put a document on the Kiev Survival Site that deals with the subject. Wander on over to:

Enjoy!

Alex-photo selles caps and cassette for kieves. Some of them are kind of expensive in relation to the lens.
pangkievrange (who bought 10 silver front caps, 3 rear caps for jupiter 9, helios 94, and a front cap for helios 94 (with kiev sign, $7.00), 15+ cassettes, and one rear cap for jupiter 12 from alex)

Russ,
How much of the J-9 dismantle and re-lube page applies to the LTM J-9? Or do you know of another page/site that might cover that version of the lens?

When I brought up lens caps, I didn't mean to start such a discussion. True, Kiev shutters are less vulnerable than the Leica copies, but I'm one to usually keep caps on lenses. I couple of cameras I've bought arrived without them. I e-mailed Yuri at Fedka, and he replied that Jupiter-8 was no problem, but for some Industars he would have to 'cannabablize' off of other cameras, so I dropped the matter. All the same, I've learned to watch that when I order a camera.

Here's Hank Fisher's spool solution...

a little more work, but a very elegant job.

Heh, for spool I just took a Fuji spool (has a hole in the center smaller than the film leader) and use my always at the ready pocket knife to cut the film leader to size.
