I took the large set screw out of the lens, and unscrewed it from the larger geared piece when cleaning the lens (before I knew that you could remove it as a whole assembly), but didn't mark where to start threading the lens. If someone could measure this distance pictured, with the range finder at infinity, that'd be great!

Caliper measurements would be best. I assume there's a standard setting for this.

Camera- 1957 C3, with the 5 shutter speeds. F/3.5 50mm Argus lense.

I just measured another spacing from a Argus Match Matic I have and it reads 1/32 inch as far as I can tell at infinity! It could be that the Match Matic has a slightly different construction! Perhaps we better wait and see if someone else has a different reading!

Sorry if i'm a bit late on this. You don't need to know the distance. I've done this a few times to fix a stiff focus. You check the focus at the film plane and play around with it till it's correct. I can give you more details if you need them.

For setting infinity focus:

With the back of the camera open, put a thin translucent piece of plastic over the film plane opening, shiny side out, using painters tape to hold it flat (or take a clear piece and rough it up with some fine sandpaper).

Set the shutter on B, and hold it open with a locking cable release, at maximum aperture.

Focus the camera on an object that is at least 100 ft away. You may want to use a loupe to check the image.

Install the focus ring set against the infinity stop, and tighten the set screws. Continue to check your other distances to make sure they are correct.

Make sure it all matches the rangefinder settings.
