Hello everyone,

As an user-collector, I am interested in those 'rare' cameras, so I have a export Kiev II made in 1951. I 'd like to see an image of a 1950 Kiev II or III when the first batch of export Kievs were made. I know they are hard to find inside ex-USSR. I find my 1951 Kiev II locally, and 1952 Kiev II in Budapest a few years ago. I am not sure if these use a seperate group of s/ns. This is a well used camera, but I think it can last another 50 years due to its very high quality.😀

Thanks.

Zhang

The best images are here (though page is in Russian): http://www.photohistory.ru/35R-F-Cam-5.htm

For instance I got this one:

Hello Jean,

Thanks for the link. I saved the image for reference. I noted that he has a 3K Zorki lens s/n 5005160, while I have a Jupiter-8 with a s/n 5005626. The very first Jupiter-8 in Kiev mount was made somewhere in between.😀 And a type 1 with s/n of 500922 is still made with Zeiss parts. So may be 1,000 more or less 1950's Kiev 2 were still made with Zeiss parts.

Kind Regards

Zhang

afaik... Jupiters (ZKs as well) were made from Zeiss Glass (not lenses! Lens were out already around 1947-49) till 1953-55, when scheme was recalculated to be used with Russian glass.

Thanks. I heard that 3K 50/2 has original Zeiss elements, and KMZ red 'p' Jupiter-8 with Carl Zeiss Jena DDR supplied Zeiss elements. But who knows? Maybe some Arsenal J-8s also have CZJ glasses?

Thanks TVphotog. Are you sure it is a model 2? I think it is a model 1 with a 3K lens. Now the last 3K and first J-8 is within about 400 lenses.🙂 1950 model 1 should still has Zeiss parts in it. If the focusing wheel has a groove, it should be assembled with Zeiss parts.

Hello,

As promised some 1950-51 samples. I'm afraid it won't help a lot.

All the best,

Jean

Hi Jean,

It is still interesting. Your 50xxxx J-8 has an aperture ring without the ears that should be found on later J-8s.

Now we have cornered the 1st J-8 and the last 3K between 5005206 and 5005626. I would guess this happened when changing from left over Zeiss elements to CZJ supplied glasses. The optical quality should be about the same.

Kind regards,

Zhang

I didn't know about the groove in the focus wheel. I will check that this weekend. I have to use the camera saturday, but I will tear into it sunday and let you know.

You don't have to tear open the camera. Just look at the wheel. I will try to find an image of a Contax wheel. My 1950 Kiev II type I has a groove.😛

Yeah, see if you can find the image, cause I didn't see a groove. Also, what serial # is your Type one. Mine is 504893 if that helps at all. The Lens serial # is close enough that I believe it came originally with the camera.
