very nice. if you were going to focus on something to improve, maybe you'd want to burn in the area around his face -- especially around his eye, as it's a little darker than it could be. the water sure looks beautifully rendered. with what did you shoot this?

The water is beautiful, I agree with Rob. I think he means to dodge the face of the duck because its too dark, and I agree there too.

If the duck was somewhere other than dead smack in the midldle, the image would be more interesting. As it is it's a good "specimen" photo.

I would agree that the animal's head is dark and not at a good angle. Although I would agree that it could be corrected, I wouldn't unless the image is irreplaceable. With wildlife, you just need patience and don't hesitate to shoot rapid sequences to get that one special image.

I would also agree that cropping the subject either to the left or right would be better since it gives the viewer some impression of movement... toward something or away. Placement in the center is a deceptively powerful thing to do and should be used sparingly and to make a specific point of emphasis in a photograph. Here in this image it doesn't work well.

Ciao!

Did somebody get a new lens? :p

I think the color of the duck dominates enough that being placed in the middle is fine. Other placement could well be experimented with however. Agree with dodging the head some. I don't know as I agree with b/w. It certainly would be worth trying, but again, I think the color of this shot gives it a better appearance. Nicely done.
