I would agree that the animal's head is dark and not at a good angle. Although I would agree that it could be corrected, I wouldn't unless the image is irreplaceable. With wildlife, you just need patience and don't hesitate to shoot rapid sequences to get that one special image.
I would also agree that cropping the subject either to the left or right would be better since it gives the viewer some impression of movement... toward something or away. Placement in the center is a deceptively powerful thing to do and should be used sparingly and to make a specific point of emphasis in a photograph. Here in this image it doesn't work well.
