Need help developing HP5

Hi guys,

I've just finished shooting my first roll of Ilford HP5+ which I plan to develop in HC110, but I forgot to change the settings in my lightmeter over to ISO 400 and have gone and shot the whole roll at ISO 100.

So my question then is what dilution & time should I use for developing this roll of HP5+ @ ISO 100 in HC110?

This is from the Ilford doco for HP5+:

DEVELOPMENT TIMES
If HP5 Plus has been inadvertently exposed at
settings below EI 250/25, the following guide will
ensure usable negatives are obtained. Obviously,
the quality of negatives processed in this way will
not be so high as conventionally processed ones.
Manual processing (min/20°C/68oF) –
accidental exposure only
ILFORD Dilution Meter setting
developer EI EI EI
50/18 100/21 200/24
PERCEPTOL stock 9 9 11

I didn't think that would display properly - it lost all the spaces!

For 100iso, that's 9 minutes in Perceptol stock.

Not sure how that relates to HC110 - you might be able to find an equivalent on the Massive Dev Chart.

EDIT:

Did some digging on the MDC.

Delta 100 at 100iso shows 9 min in Perceptol, and 6 minutes in HC-110 Dilution B.

FP4+ shows 9 minutes in Perceptol and 7-9 minutes in HC-110 Dilution B.

Contrast will be lower, but shouldn't be too bad. I'd try a different developer as HC-110 B normal development time is only 5 mintes or so at ISO400- Or move to a weaker solution- perhaps HC-110 E?

Microdol-X works well for HP5 @ 50- run 1:1 for 8 minutes if this was shot outside- I'd try 9 if it was indoors.

I'd try dilution H for about 6.5 or 7 minutes depending on the light condition. That should get you something reasonable. My standard combo is HP5 @ EI200, which gets 8 minutes in H.

I could go ahead and try developing the roll in HC-110 now that you've been kind enough to give me some times to use, but on second thought I do have some D-76 handy - would I be better off developing it in that instead do you think?

For D-76 I'd suggest high dillution 1+3 and development times between 11 and 12 minutes. But I have never tried this.

Well this story has a happy ending as I ended up developing the roll for 6 minutes in D-76 stock and am very pleased with the results! (thanks again to everyone who gave me their suggestions)
