been looking on ebay for a 48mm screw in hood for my canon 50/1.4 lens...and i cannot find any!
i found a canon hood for the lens but i don't want to pay the asking price...plus i'd be fine with a cheap after market one.
if someone were to find one on ebay i would be very grateful...

48mm is such a difficult size these days. I was just patient and eventually got a canon original s-50 hood for under $25
You never know it could go for cheap, at least worth a try:

Joe,
Consider a 48-49mm step up ring. Heavystar has them and 49mm hoods. Just a thought.

Not very hard to search. How about $1.99?

heavystar used to have everything i ever needed but no 48s...maybe the step-up ring is the way to go.

The step up ring is a good idea, I use them on my Canon lenses.
But why don't you like the rubber hoods? I use them too.

I have a 48-49 ring on my Nikkor 85 and a nice 49mm Olympus hood for an 85mm lens. Try the same idea for your 50. Pentax lenses used 49mm hoods & filters also.
Have you looked at KEH for a hood? A lot of companies sold the same hoods for both 35mm and 50mm lenses. Again, try Olympus and Pentax. I'm sure other companies had 49mm filter threads.

I believe it is the T-50 and YES they are pricey.

The Canon hood for a 50mm lens is NOT a T-50. The T-50 is for telephotos like 135.
KEH has a 49mm thread hood for a Pentax 50.

You are correct and I must correct myself. It is indeed the s-50. I answered too quickly. There are 3 currently on the auction site listed in Great Britain at approx. $50 US dollars. That is about the going price. I have often questioned the efficacy of purchasing older lenses when the hood is extremely difficult to find and when found expensive. It is best to investigate the availability of often brand modern hoods from China for any particular older lens that one is considering purchasing.

i don't dislike them but i do prefer metal...just for better safety when mucking about.
Joe, I have a 48 collapsible rubber hood I don't need. I'll mail it to you if you want it

I bought a very nice 43mm vented hood for my Nikkor 50/1.4 from HeavyStar for next to nothing. Do they have something similar in 48mm or 49mm?

It seem to be a standard off the shelf item around here. I guess shipping would be prohibitive ;-).

Using just my phone to surf the web tonight I found:
A 48 to 49 step up ring at HeavyStar Photo Gears
And
A 49mm Pentax hood for a 50mm lens at www.keh.com
Good luck.
