While doing research for an upcoming project, I was attempting to find a particular body of work that I had seen some time ago, but did not bookmark. Of course, now I can't find it again. If any of the following rings a bell to anyone, I'd greatly appreciate being pointed in the right direction.

The series depicted life in a nursing home with black and white images which were generally grainy and often largely blurred (or at least shot with very narrow depth-of-field). The compositions were frequently "unbalanced" and generally unorthodox, with subjects faces often relegated to the extreme edges of the frame. This work was made in a style quite similar to that of Trent Parke, Paolo Pellegrin, or Alex Majoli. In fact, I thought at first that is was made by one of the three. It does not appear to be. I was certain that it must, therefore, have been made by another Magnum photographer, but I just can't seem to track the work down.

Any ideas?

I am working my way through the portfolios now. However, by my best estimation, the "photographers" page contains some 4,000 images, so blindly searching will take me some time. Wish me luck...

Maybe not the photographer you were looking for, but you should check out this link:

Click on the "fifty-two minutes" portfolio for blurry pictures, and "America's Last Colony" for images from a nursing home. I'd say those images have impact - really impressive body of work.

Rune, you are correct: that is not the photographer I was looking for. Still, his work is quite close in style and will serve as a useful reference. Thank you.

In fact, it is style reference specifically that I am seeking (the institutional subject matter is incidental to me for this purpose) as I try to formulate my strategy for a new proposal.

I would still welcome any other suggestions.

Nursing Home Series

Long back I picked up an old magazine with a few photographs by Jim Goldberg. I am sure it was called "Nursing Home". Later on I remember seeing him on Magnum. Some of the characteristics you describe seems to match with his photographs - almost polaroid looking captures. But you did not mention anything about the original notes by the people at the nursing home around the photos. So this may not be the person you are looking for. Sorry if I am misleading you.
