So I picked up a used 5400 off of ebay and cant get it to work.
using Vuescan I get a small window stating to remove the tray before calibrating.
I click the window and then thats it- Vuescan tells me there is no scanner !
the scanners green light keeps flashing when it should be solid.
I can see that my computer got the scanner driver in the device manager from vuescan.
and on top of that I can not find anywhere to download the dimage software off the net which will work with 64 bit windows 7.
can anyone help me ???

You've to put the Scan button and after this, insert the negatives holder.

The procedure I currently use with Vuescan is:
1. Turn on the scanner
2. Wait a few minutes (the fluorescent light source must heat up to get stable)
3. Launch Vuescan
4. Click OK to have it pre-calibrate the scanner
5. Wait until the light stops flashing
6. Do the final calibration with Vuescan->Scanner->Calibrate
7. Now you can insert the holder and scan
At point 5, if the light won't stop flashing after Calibrate, you may have an exhausted lamp.
