A friend might sell his leicas but knows nothing about what are they worth.
Could you help me with price ranges?

A well worn user M2(might need a cla but not sure),
some kind of 50/2.8 and some kind of 90(all about the same age).

If the prices will be wothwhile for him to sell I will try convincing him selling them here with a small discount before he goes to evilbay.

thanks in advance
Mike

Here's a very rough idea. (Others are encouraged to amend as they see fit.)

well worn M2, possible CLA required: $500

50mm f2.8 Elmar $200 depends on glass

90mm f4 Elmar $150 depends on glass

User M3 + DAG CLA

User M3 + DAG CLA

Confirming Frank's M2 estimate: I had my hands wrapped around a well used, but not abused, M3 in a local shop recently. The body had just come from DAG after a $290 CLA. The shop was asking $826 for the body.

So much depends on condition. If the body is dented and scratched, then it's worth less. If the glass in the lenses is hazy, they are worth less.

Yes, but thee prices are for equip in EX condition (and so much depends on condition) and the 90mm f4 Elmar (rigid) is not listed. (which is most likely what lens your friend has)

Ok, and the price you suggested are for "average user" condition?
How much do lens cosmetics count(with perfect or near perfect glass)?

Assuming it's all leitz original stuff(talking about lenses) ... are you in grade to give us serial numbers of camera (on top) and on the lenses (in front)? so we can give you a correct datation and identification... even colour (black or chrome) might be interesting...

apperently he has a few

leica m2 chrome,CLA'd shutter(new curtains),ugly brassed with some broken off vulcanite serial 1074713

leica m2 nice user body 1131988

elmar 50/2.8 serial 1911806
elmar 90/4 serial 1725007
summacron 35/2.8

M2 body lot of 2600 chrome released in august 1965; in total over 76,000
elmar 50 made in 1961;in that year 5389 made.
elmar 90 made in 1960;different versions rigid, collassible, and screw with adapter of course; plus meter and feet versions say bayonets rigid 2271 units collaps. units 1038.
summicron 35/2.8 not exists, summaron bayonet made from 1958 to 1974? in sligtly more than 20,000 units;
nothing seems particularly rare; in that period everything was build as a tank and probably a simple CLA will solve 99% of problems and internal will work as new.
just control that mounts and all regulations (camera times, shutter, lens focus, light dimmer) move gently, and most important no sign of bad hits, and probably will be valid for your sons and still more, if film will have still sense.
Brassing is just a sign of age (as grey hair) and if you want you can substitute vulcanite and repaint all to any colour you like (yourself if your able, outside at any level of quality you want if you have money...) and be happy as with a new MP.

Hope this helps.

"Some kind of" is not enough description.

Come back whe you have the names of the lenses. Should be easily read from around the glass on the front edge of each lens. THEN we can give you definitive advice.

I thought Michael had already come back with that information in post 12. 😉
