hi so i've had my ql-17 for a few months and i have used it a few times with a hand help light mete.r but im getting kinda of tired of using it so i ordered a battery for it and its the one every one said works. the issue is when i got the battery and put it in the camera it didn't work so i was wondering if any one could possibly recommend a cheap repair shop or if you could tell me if its something wrong with the electrical wiring

Some modern batteries are too small. You have to pad them with a little aluminum foil or something similarly conductive to ensure proper contact.

The meter will work only when the camera is in A mode. Install the battery, turn the aperture ring to A, then look through the viewfinder and see if the needle moves, you may have to turn the shutter speed ring up or down before the meter responds. Make sure the battery contacts are clean, scrape them a little bit with the tip of a small screwdriver to make sure you have metal-to-metal contact. The QL17 in A mode is a shutter priority camera, the aperture changes according to the amount of light, if you select a shutter speed which is too high or too low, the shutter will not fire.

If that was a zink-oxide, or silver-oxide battery, did you wait the appropriate time before inserting it into the camera?

Same advice than FarlyMac : wait 30min/1hour, it should work.

I've been tricked by this too and have thrown away a few good batteries, thinking I had a bad batch...

the battery has been out for a few days and i know it only works on auto. but when i did the battery check button and the light didnt work

Sorry, but NOT telling us the specific battery is NOT helpful. There are about six or seven work arounds that are, for the most part simply urban legends on the battery for these cameras. The batteries that work and the proper spacer configuration are important.
The only one I really know works is the CRIS MR-9 adaptor, as it is exact size of the original mercury. Many people just won't pony up the money to put a great camera back in service.

Which one of these did you fall privy to. What battery please?

I would have agreed with this ,,, But Wein Cell MRB625 Changed..

the wiencell mrb625 replacment px625 battery

This would normally be correct and I used the MRB 625 for some time in place of the PX625. However, my experience in the last year has been bad, very bad, with the Wein Cell MRBd625. They changed the construction slightly and added a foil layer with a peak on it to one side of the batteries. I have not been able to make an MRB625 battery work properly in camera's I have used them in before. And I know about leaving the battery exposed for a few minutes to give it time to build up to voltage after unsealing the holes. Something has changed. In fact as I write this, I have two new batteries I have not been able to use. I think I will remove that foil addon and see if that fixes the problem. It is affixed to stay, but something is not right.

I've used that Wein Cell in OM-1's, canonets, Oly rangefinders and many more. Now I can't get them to function.
