need info about selenium photo cell from Olympus pen EE-2 Camera

Im sorry if my english is not so good😛


I just bought an Olympus pen EE2 from one of my friend but i didnt know much about it, especially about the sellenium photo cell, can anybody tells me whats the function of this cell and how does it work?
Because i cant figure out wether my camera's sellenium cell is still working or not.
One more question. If mine was broken (sellenium cell), what is the affect in film exposure?

Hi, The function of the cell is to provide a light reading so the camera can calculate exposure. I think some of these Pens like the Olympus Trip have a little red flag that pops up when there is not enough light. Check the manual at http://www.kyphoto.com/classics/instructionmanuals.html
If you hold your hand over the selenium cell and try and take a shot the little red flag should pop up. This indicates that the cell etc it working. However, I have a Trip where the red flag doesn't appear and it still manages to provide good exposures in sunlight. Try a test roll.

Ow i see 😀 Thanks a lot elwrongo, so this camera needs to get some sunlight before it can operate. Actualy im already try a test roll and this camera can do 72 shot per roll, so i think it will take some time until i can complete my test..

What did your test results conclude? I just took my first roll, and am anxious to see how the auto compares with the manual, and if the manual does kick into the 1/200 shutter speed in brighter lights.

Somewhere I read that in manual mode it stays in 1/40th, while in "auto" mode where you just set the ISO it either stays in 1/200 mode, or picks either of the 2 as well as aperture for you.
