Hi,
i'm going to the Netherlands (Amsterdam) next 2 weeks.
I'd like to have info. about where is the best place to buy Cameras, Darkroom
Equipment and supplies.

I would try B+H in NYC. They ship worldwide. I spent a week in A last summer and could find only one store that carried Leica, on a narrow street one block to the west of the streetcared one going straight into the city from the train station CS, about 300 m down. And a very poor supply of them, too.

I had googled (can you do that?) earlier and found one super camera store way in the southeast boondocks of A, no easy public transportation to get there and I enjoyed the inner city instead. Noone had heard of the ZI cameras for example or seen one anywhere in all of A ... So back to NYC ...

Oh, come on! 🙂 Just because you couldn't find it, doesn't mean it's not there. You make it sound the Netherlands is some kind of under-developed place... 😱

Where are you from, MadInBkk?

Generally, cameras aren't cheap in Holland. Germany and the UK have much better prices, and the US even better. And if you come from a dollar country, our euro prices will be even more disadvantageous to you.

That said, there are a few threads here on RFF that deal with shops in Amsterdam. Try to search RFF for them.

i'm from Bangkok, Thailand where now very hard to find darkroom equipment.

i've already checked out every sites recommended by all of you.
very useful...eventhough, most of them are in dutch, anyway i have a few dutch friends there...so no problem😱 .

Foto Nivo Schweitzer mentioned above have by far the lowest film prices. They always have cheap Tri-X and Ilford XP2. They also have by far the highest used Leica prices.

Not so far away is "Photo Professional" on the Nieuwendijk. They usually have a few Leica items and, it seems to me, they have some very funny ideas about pricing stuff. Some stuff is very overpriced and some stuff can be underpriced (although not very often). Example: last week I bought a nice but well used M4 from them for 480 euro but they wanted another 400 euro for the old 50mm Elmar (!) that was on it. I declined the Elmar. At the same time they had a rigid 'cron for 225 euro in the window, although I didn't look closely at it as I already have one.

Between those 2 shops, on the Haarlemmerstraat, is a used camera store called Photo Jansen with some really interesting gear in it. The somewhat grumpy owner appears not to want to part with anything as his prices are soooooooo high (he wanted 6000 euro for a f1.2 Noktilux) His stock has barely changed in the 8 years I've been drooling in his window. Nice to look at though.

There's another good place for Leicas but it's kind of off the beaten track over near the OLVG hospital - maybe someone else knows the name and address of that one. They don't have a lot of stock but they are friendly and like to chat.

The same goes for a place on the Weteringschans between Leidseplein and Frederiksplein.

But as RML says Leica prices are relatively high in Amsterdam.
 
Foto Jansen sucks IMHO. The owner is a grumpy old fart, is very opiniated, and his prices are sky high. IIRC he has a Canon 7 (or P?) in the window for 1100 euro. I can't shake the feeling that's a bit outrageous. The Rolleis, 'cords, etc are also rather high priced. And yes, the store itself seems to have been stuck in a time warp, not having changed a bit since a decade or more. 🙂

There 2 or 3 shops near OLVG:

Foto-Cine NIVO - Eerste Oosterparkstraat 121
Foto Fransen - Beukenweg 31
Peeters' Foto Cine - Eerste van Swindenstraat 41

I don't know if the first and last still exist. Foto Fransen is still in business, though. IIRC, Peeters' is a small shop with a ton of things to rummage through, at least that was the case several years ago. At that same day, Foto-Cine Nivo was closed, and I haven't been back to check on either shop since.

Check out the two stores (one for pros, the other for amateurs) at Parnassusweg 204. Right across the street is a newly opened Märklin store, in case you're into model trains. 🙂

At the corner of Zeilstraat/Amstelveenseweg is a small shop that looks like a regular digicam selling shop but they also have some second hand manual focus lenses and such.

The shop Foto Professional at Nieuwendijk 113 is always fun to walk into but I've never bought anything there. I can get my stuff cheaper from Stephen Gandy or elsewhere on the internet. 🙂

But this is all camera stuff, no darkroom. For darkroom you're pretty much limited to Foto Nivo at Haarlemmerdijk 114.
 
Ha, exactly - I was trying to be polite about Foto Jansen but, yes, he is a grumpy old fart - although he did once sell me a sh*tload of short dated T400CN for less than a euro a roll. I can attest that that Canon 7 with the 50mm f0.95 (and the scruffy M4-2 and CL) has been in the window since at least 1998.

Foto Fransen (not to be confused with the above) the other one I meant. A good place to shop but a bit out of the way for tourists.

There's also Swank Foto on the Spui (say "s'pow") which never has Leica M but has some Leica R and other stuff and it's right in the centre.

I'd agree in general about Foto Professional but I have to say I've had some bargains from them and they always give a discount for cash (or PIN) once they know you.

Your details are greats. Very fun and useful ,this seem like everywhere, even in Thailand...but still interesting toppic about different shop.
