There IS SUCH a thing as a high ISO P&S

The Fuji f30/f31 was (is) a remarkable low-light camera. Not to mention what Fuji has been doing recently to improve high ISO. The F30/F31 camera is by no means a new camera and was stepping all over the competition a few years ago. As megapixels have gone up, ISO has been suffering, but Fuji seems to know what they are doing in this area.
 
P&S digi compacts?....used a few, and IMO it all keeps coming back to highlights and shadows - and "never the twain shall meet!", having said that-there is usually the little Nikon somewhere in my jacket, for the odd snapshot - like this one. :)

I am too kind of, but in China there will be a premium on them for quite a while, a friend of mine got one a few days ago from Japan but ended up paying 1200 USD! No thanks.

I got eyes for this Panasonic TZ7 thing right now as a camera for the old man, he likes wides and lots of zoom in a small package and that seems to be ok then I will wait for what Olympus will show in their m4/3 camera but I have serious doubts about zoom on the new Olympus camera, even on the panasonic g1 the 14-45 zoom is more then what people would want on the end of that olympus mock up camera.
 
the thing is, if you want to shoot in dim rooms like pubs etc., you will need a cam with good results at ISO 800 and higher. I have seen photos of many minicams, but it seems as if only DP2 really produces decent results at ISO 1600 and even 3200. Of course, I do not own this cam yet, and therefore I do not have own images to prove. I have only seen some in the net.

I'm going back and forth between a LX3 and a GX100 right now. I find myself picking up the GX100 more and more - the controls and build "feel" is WAY better than the LX3. (But you already knew that). Plus the TC-1 adapter gives me 135mm if I really need that.

OTOH. the LX3 sure has a fast lens and much nicer LCD.

Eventually I'll sell one.
 
I have and love the LX3 but yes,if I want some telephoto I use my D80. The LX3 is a terrific low light camera and I can mostly avoid flash with it when indoors. The manual tha accompanies it I find difficult to use but it is a great ( wide) camera.
