Need opinion on Canon 25/3.5 on R-D1

Has anyaone used this lens on the R-D1? I will be getting one soon. How does this lens compare with the CV25/4, aside from being RF coupled vs the CV not being coupled?

i have never seen or used that particular canon lens.

but i would be willing to bet that...the canon will be just as small but way heavier, that it will have lower contrast (a good thing on the rd, i have read) and just look gorgeous.

The 25mm Canon is small enough to fit within the neverready case on my IIf!
I learned to guesstimate the field of view to be able to use it more or less without an external finder, great combo!

The Canon 25/3.5 I briefly owned rendered satisfactory results but was objectionable because the focusing was so un-ergonomic. The Color-Skopar looks to be easier to focus, given it nifty little lever. (I have not owned the latter.)

If size doesn't matter, buy the larger Zeiss 25/2.8 Biogon and be done with it. A superb lens in every detail and is a joy to use. (ONLY avaiable in M-mount which presents a wee problem in case you also want to use it on any LTM cameras.)

I have not used these lenses on the RD-1, but have recently done a comparison on Kodak 100uc print film. I have not scanned any of the negs, unfortunately.

Both lenses render pleasing results, but the 25/4 Skopar wins hands-down with regard to resolution (not too surprising given the age of the Canon). The Skopar photos are also more contrasty. Lastly, the Canon exhibits significant vignetting/darkening in the corners at wider aperatures (say, below f8), while the Skopar shows only minor vignetting wide open, and I did not see any at 5.6and smaller aperatures. As mentioned by another poster, the Canon is harder to focus than the Skopar because the lens is really short (lens mount to lens bezel), but I do not find it to be too difficult though. And I have short, fat fingers

DO bear in mind that Voigtlander are bringing out a new, rangefinder-coupled 25mm lens. It sounds as if it will be a little faster, too - Stephen Gandy mentions on his site that it will be bigger. With luck, we might hear news once he returns to the US.

Hopefully it will vignette less than its predecessor, too. I'm holding out for one for my R-D1...

Received the lens, and the results are in. The lens does look gorgeous on the camera. I was surprised with the results. I don't see any (or hardly any) vignetting. I do notice an unusual pattern of flare. See the skyline photo in my gallery.
