I have several Konica Hexanon AR lenses, lenses (2) for Alpa SLR, couple of Tessars for Exakta, Nikon SLR, Leica RF lenses, CV for RF, Zeiss M's. I also have corresponding cameras for these lenses BUT, I am thinking I would like a much smaller camera like 4/3,micro 4/3 or similar for these lenses. The one I'm really drawn to is the SonyA7 for more convenience with legacy lenses and maybe prime telephotos and the fact it is FF.
What I would like from you are ideas with the above info in mind to help me in deciding, I'm in no rush! Thanks in advance for any feedback.

i am moving closer to the idea that lenses are best on the bodies they were designed for.
i shake my head at comments from folks that their 'whatever' brand lenses don't work properly on their new cameras.
i like my fuji cameras and the fuji lenses designed for them. sure, i have a couple of adapters for my non fuji lenses but i rarely use them and honestly, they aren't nearly as easy/fun to use as the fuji lenses.

Thanks Joe and Segedi, I have been thinking that maybe it is better to use the bodies designed for the lenses. Makes perfect sense. Thanks loads guys!

Tony ... in your position I'd be taking the plunge and trying this for yourself rather than take heed of other's opinions.

Life's too short!

Perhaps you could borrow a body to try out your lenses. Other than that I agree with what Joe said. I have also noticed an increase in post about legacy lenses having focus problems on working with certain bodies.

Hi Tony, did you see Roger Cicala's article about the A7R? He's one of the few people on the internet who I think has good credibility.

I tend to agree with Keith - life's short, if you can afford to try it then give it a try, and if you don't find it performs as well as you'd like with your existing lenses then sell it sooner rather than later.

From what I read the Zeiss lenses for the A7R are very good, and expensive (well perhaps not so expensive compared to Leica). A lot of people are likely to buy it to mount M-mount lenses, given the price compared to the M240.

It depends, I suppose, on how much you're willing to spend to play. For a couple hundred bucks you can get a Panny GX1 and the adapters are fairly inexpensive and plentiful for m4/3rds. It's a cheap way to try it out... and while it's not 24x36, the 4/3 conversion factor is really easy to work with.

Tony,
Your choice would probably depend on what FOV you want from your lenses. I like the u4/3 system and am able to live with the smaller FOV with my CV RF and Nikon F lenses on my GX7 and GH3 bodies. If you want the same FOV you are currently enjoying with you lenses then FF is the only way to go. Perhaps after the A7 has been on the market for a while you may be able to find one to rent for a few days. Good luck!

Mike
