Hi all

First post here, after much lurking. Apologies if this has been covered elsewhere, but does anyone know or have heard of problems using negative scanners with a Vista system?

I ask because I'm thinking of investing in a neg scanner (now that I finally have a 'pooter powerfull and HD-spacious enough), but have experienced many problems installing hardware/software on the relatively new Vista operating system.

Specifically I'm thinking of a Minolta Scan Elite 5400.

Cheers.

My Epson V350 actually plugged any played! It was labled vista on the box, this is however, not one of the really high end scanners. It did allow me to get into a RF film camera however.

This has been mentioned on another system, and the universal solution seems to be to go with one of the third-party scanner programs such as Vuescan or Silverfast, particularly when dealing with an "orphan" scanner such as those from K-M.

I've always regarded these programs as unnecessary, but if and when I go to Vista I will probably have to use one of them in order to keep the scanner operating.

The reports on pnet are that the Nikon Coolscan software installs and functions fine under Vista. You have to bull your way through some dialog boxes at the beginning of the install.

I bought an iMac last Aug to get the old 10.4 just because I I was told the MK 5400 software would work. It does. Don`t know about current 10.5.

Vista was a mistake and MK software will not work on it.

Why people buy business machines for graphic arts is beyond me.
