negative color film similar to kodachrome 200?

Hello all,

I love the "color tri-x" look of Kodachrome 200, and was wondering if there's a color negative film that comes anywhere close to it in grain and color palette. I'd be using it mostly for available light street photography. I've seen recommendations here and there for neg films similar to Kodachrome 64, but never for anything like Kodachrome 200, with its particular look.

I didn't see anything anything obviously relevant on the forums, so if anyone has any thoughts or advice, I'd really appreciate it!

Hmm I never thought of Kodachrome as color tri-x but the one negative film I think can maybe be called color tri-x is NPH - at least the old NPH (have not used it in a while)

Other than that, asking for a color neg film that looks like Kodachrome 200 is a little like asking for a beer that tastes like wine.....

Try the Fuji Provia 400X - it has a really pleasing grain structure to my eye. The look of Kadochrome colors probably won't be matched, but the Provia 400X is pretty nice.

You won't really know for yourself until you experiment though. Get a sampling of Fuji and Kodak's 200 and 400 ASA offerings - pro and consumer - and give each of them a try in similar conditions then pick one that gives the look you like.

I've had good luck on the road with Fuji's consumer "Sensia" films when I've run out of Provia. They are priced 1/3 less than the pro films too.

Hmmmmmmmmm...Kodak 400UC at 200...nope, no grain. Wonderful film at 100, 200 or 400.

Otherwise, like others said: NPH, NPZ or Superia 800 at Wally World for the budget minded.

For real grit and color too, try Fuji Superia 1600.

The closest negative film that I think of as being anywhere close to Kodachrome is very hard to find anymore, and that would be the Agfa (Vista?) which was rebranded as Walgreens.

It's really more "Ektachromish" than "Kodachromish", but it's quite different from the common Kodak and Fuji off the shelf films we're seeing today. I would describe it as a kind of warmer 70s vintage Ektachrome look.

Thank you all for your suggestions! I realize it's probably an impossible question (and should probably expand my question to ask if there's any film at all like Kodachrome 200, slide or neg). I generally prefer b&w, but have been really struck by the look of Kodachrome 200 (a good example of what I'm talking about would be the cover image of Alex Webb's book, Istanbul: grainy, subdued, yet intense). Anyway, I'll try out your suggestions.

And Pablito, I take your point that asking for a color neg film that looks like Kodachrome 200 is a little like asking for a beer that tastes like wine. So maybe I'm looking for a film that's like barleywine?
