I would agree; very contrasty. What did you rate it at and what dev?

i over exposed it 1/3 of a stop, what is that iso 1450. let just say i OE +1/3 and normal process... sadly, i sent it out for developing... i had a lazy moment.

Nothing wrong w/not developing it yourself so long as you have a good lab (that's what I do, anyway). Welcome to the dark (lighting conditions) side.

I don't develope my own film any more, I have a great lab nearby that will process to my specifications...and your not being lazy, just saving more time for shooting. 🙂

One thing about NP1600 is that it's so contrasty. These are very nice results, but I'm consistently surprised that the film is marketed as 1600. But I guess it would be weird to have "Neopan 1250" or something like that.

I'm really impressed with it. I shot most of the roll with my summi 90/2 and my jupiter 3 wide open. it's my new fav. and the 400 looks great too

Excellent stuff triple & Nick! I rate NP1600 at 1250 and have had it developed in XTOL. I have some HC-110 for it but haven't used it yet.

I mentioned during the last days (testing Neopan 1600, developing in Xtol), that it effectively reaches ASA 640, which leads to a large (and nice) tonal range. It's also nice to use at ASA 1250-1600 (at nearly the same developing times), but then it's more contrasty, loosing about 1 and a half stop of tonal range against ASA 640.

I developed a roll of Neopan 1600 (Xtol 1+1) tonight. Since there was very little light, when my daughter got her birthday presents from her aunt, I had to shoot at ISO 1600. I think the results are pretty nice, although I much prefer Neopan 1600 @ 640 ASA. Here are 3 examples; please note, that these are "contact sheet scans", scanned quickly to sort the frames out, no dust removing, no post-processing (except "auto adjust" in the scan program). What do you think?

Great results! Before I gave up film (as you can tell I rethought that) Neopan 1600 was my favorite low light B&W film. The only reason I haven't picked up any more now that I'm shooting film again is that I've got a huge amount of out of date color film in the fridge that I'm trying to use first.triplefinger said:

I just 'rediscovered Xtol. What kind of development times do you use for the EI 640? It would seem to be an ideal developer for the Neopan. It's great for TriX and Tmax.

Steve, if rated at EI 640 I use Xtol 1+1 and develop for 7 3/4 to 8 minutes (depending on the overall contrast of the scenes) at 20°C. For EI 1600 it's 9 minutes. Agitation: 30 seconds at the beginning, then 10 seconds each minute.
