And HP5, albeit slightly different. I'm a Neopan lover but I knew this was coming and silently stocked up months ago. Still doesn't take away the burn though.

I guess I'm not so surprised. I buy a lot of film here in Tokyo, and many (most?) Japanese who shoot 400 speed black-and-white film use Tri-X, so Presto doesn't do well even in the Japanese market. Occasionally Trix even sells out, the last time Kodak was announcing it's financial problems, hoarders quickly emptied store inventories of Kodak film. Of course, the same will probably happen with Fuji now.

Yeah the price of 400X has been ridiculous for quite a while now. Still irks me, however. Heck, Kodak could have probably stayed in E-6 and outlasted Fuji at the rate they're going on things.

Just pulled all my film out of the fridge and did a stocktake > about 250 rolls, most of it Neopan 400. Still not enough. I think I'll drop by Yodobashi Camera later today...

kentmere 400 has become my base 400 BW film.
Tri-x and HP5 are my "luxury" 400 film.

Just pulled all my film out of the fridge and did a stocktake > about 250 rolls, most of it Neopan 400. Still not enough. I think I'll drop by Yodobashi Camera later today...

I think both you and I went off the same feeling at the time too (might have even been from that photo you posted on flickr) and went off and dumped a bunch of $$$ into 400PR.

Fuji has basically nuked the following great films over the last 3-4 years:

1600PR
400PR
100SS

I understand their concerns and desires - but I absolutely despise their communication.

For those who read Japanese, below is the email I got from Fujifilm on April 9th, 2013 regarding Neopan 400 (actually the follow up reply after I responded asking why they didn't update Neopan 400's packaging). The bit in bold says:

"We have announced Neopan 400's discontinuation overseas and stopped selling 24 shot rolls in Japan, but will continue to sell (and manufacture) 36 shot rolls in Japan".

I think that means it'll be available here for a little longer than elsewhere. But I'm gonna stock up anyway.

One way to help Leica's digital division: eliminate the best remaining low light options for B&W and Color.

I laughed at the suggestion to replace 400x with 100. I'd love to see how that pushes to 1600....

Still, the frustration heard now will be nothing compared to the day they get around to velvia 50 and acros... Blood in the streets.

Well if this doesn't give you 'Chicken Little' syndrome about Fuji's future commitment to film nothing will. I suppose it was always inevitable that the two largest producers of film would be the first to fall by the wayside.

I don't think Ilford will mind this at all.

wow, the only reason why I find this tragic is because there aren't any 400 35mm or 120 slides other than Provia.
i only use provia 100
