Never seen one on sale before...

As i said in a post earlier this is a pishing scam, there's a lot of those on ebay.
To those of you that didn't take it seriously and used the log in provided by the scammer, good luck.
This has nothing to do with a camera that is or is not, this is about getting email names and passwords.

Did any of you try to Add this to you watch list and got the log in fields and both fields were empty?
I am already logged in to ebay but still got the log in page. I believe this is a pishing scam.
If you think you logged in you have now revealed your ebay credentials.

I just tried reporting the item and get the same log in page. I am sure this is a scam. Don't log in using the log in page that pops up.

Yup...saw that...got out as soon as that happened...

The serial number would make it the third IIIg produced--if it were a IIIg, which it isn't. Evidently there were so few IIgs ever made that they were never assigned their own serial number block. Rogliatti shows one on page 55, with the notation:

"In 1956 a very small quantity of Leica IIg's were manufactured."

Rogliatti shows # 825001. The eBay auction is for #825003.

Question: Michael's post is dated 01/23/2014. Yet the link brings up a current eBay auction. How is that? Michael, did you edit and update the link? Did someone else?

This thread amuses me. It illustrates the folly of confusing rarity with desirability.

Do people really think that an inferior version of a camera is automatically more desirable than the superior standard version simply because there are less of them? IMO anybody who is daft enough to pay £70,000 for a IIg when they could buy a IIIg for £500 deserves everything they get, and it is irrelevant whether or not the camera is a fake.

I have a mint Leica M1 and a very nice IIf, but I'd happily swap them for the equivalent but far less rare M3 and IIIf.

I agree. I got into an argument after I said rarity does not always equal high value on another antique forum. The guy said I was wrong and then started the "please explain, I'm confused" routine. When I gave 5 examples of rare items being worth less than common, from 5 different collecting genres, he got mad and started IMing me about how rude I was. Probably the guy selling this camera!
