Hi, I've seen the idea of modifying the case of FSU RF cams to allow the front portion of the case to be removed. I tried this with my Kiev case, which seems to have been made to swap the fixed rivet for a popper stud. It works very well (Incidentally, the case was difficult to pull over the camera when it had the J12 fitted, now no problem). The FED3 case presented more of a problem. The solution I've seen was to cut round the leather of the bottom rivet, holding the lower part of the front casing, so that it is held in position when closed by the top part, which still has the popper stud. I wanted to find a way to get a double popper stud so that both top and bottom "pop" on/off the same popper, but cannot track down such a thing. The pics show my working, if inelegant modification. Two popper studs. May not look the neatest but works very well. (I should clean up the edges of the cut or leave the original leather in place).
The popper stud kit includes a small hole punch, a spreading tool and holder/anvil. A good source of these may be your local dress maker shop (don't let them think that you are making a new frock!)
What can be done for the FED 2 case? Are they too nice to change their original look?
