New 35 f2 images

Weather sealed..nice... According to the rumor, all three new lenses are supposed to be weather sealed 🙂..

I am going to eventually pick up all three of these new lenses...I really don't need them right away, so I can wait till next year..hopefully they go on sale by then.

I would prefer a 16f2 or 2.8, since I don't need the speed in that focal length. I wonder if they will do a f2 later like they did the 35f2?

The WR of these three new primes looks attractive, and unique. If memory serves in the entire mirrorless world there is yet to be a single weather sealed prime lens, saves for the Oly 8/1.8 Fisheye Pro which is in development as well. And it's a fisheye.

Now I'm seriously considering the X-T1 as my hiking camera of choice.

For myself, I want corner-to-corner evenness for landscape. On the wide side of the R prime trio, the 18/2, an otherwise excellent lens, doesn't do that--plus it's not really wide enough, either. I bet the 35/2 will have no problem stopped down, but... Although I use normals to shoot landscape more than any other focal length, I'd still want a wide. YMMV.

With an APS-C sensor, the new 35/2 is an attractive balance between speed, subject isolation and size/weight. I will be optimistic and assume the AF motors and MF stepping motor ring will be improved too.

Agreed. The 18/2 XF is primarily a reportage lens.

This lens seems too small to properly cover a 24 X 36 mm sensor area. So, I will speculate if a Fujifilm plans to bring a 24 X 36 mm body to market, it will be use an entirely new lens line. I do not desire a 24 X 36 mm sensor body, so filling in the XF line with more compact, improved AF prime lenses works for me.

Personally I hope they skip 24 X 36 mm sensors are go right to 44 x 33 mm sensor (medium format) with a compact mirrorless design. I would find a larger square-format sensor attractive as well.

X lenses always seemed too big to me, so the new ones are very exciting to me. However, from the latest pictures I've seen (the one below is from FujiRumors), it looks like Fuji missed a good opportunity to mark DoF scales on the lenses, forcing users to make their DoF determinations by lifting the camera to their eye. I'm having flash-backs of the Contax G lenses...excellent glass, no DoF scales.

As much as I like dof marks..for hyper focal or zone focus work.. If the lens af is fast enough and it helps to keep the price down, I can live w/o it. Otoh, give Fuji does not use mechanical focus for their lenses, I wonder if it would also be an accuracy issue (10ft is 10ft sort of thing or inf is inf).

Ps. Forgot to mention...The af speed is fast enough on the xt1, that it is rare that I wish for using zone focus techniques. The later lenses on the first gen is much faster then the first batch like the 35f1.4..

Yes - but if I had to choose I'd rather stagnate with my x-t1 and ponder fuji's considerable native lens choices than live with limited native lens choices and ponder new alpha bodies. Wait, I did choose. YMMV.

LOL. THIS. How many Sony A7/ILCE users here actually use native lenses with their bodies? That's not to say that the A7 camera bodies aren't great...but I think the A7's are one of the only cameras on the market that are bought by people with no intention of using native glass at all (full disclosure, I'm one of those people).

The Fuji X ecosystem is the most focused/flexible "new" camera system on the market IMHO. Amazing that it's already more evolved and flexible than other, older "compact" systems like Sony's, Canon's M, or Nikon's 1.

That 35mm f/2 looks pretty great. Since the 35mm 1.4 has already set such a high benchmark IQ wise, I'd be interested in seeing how much more performance Fuji manages to squeeze from a slower lens, which I'm assuming Fuji wouldn't be putting on the market if it weren't trading speed for significant gains in IQ.

Granted... I've been hoping for a 35mm equiv (23mm) version of this type of lens, it's nice to see Fuji branching out... and thank god Fuji left the aperture ring on the camera (really wish the 27mm f/2.8 had aperture ring).

I noticed it's weather resistant too. I'm guessing the next XPro camera will probably have weather resistance of some sort.

I was close to pulling the trigger on a 23mm or 35mm f/1.4 (was trying to decide between the focal lengths). Now, I think I'll have to wait for the 35mm f/2 to be released before making my decision.

I got very excited, okay just excited, when I saw this as I thought it was a potential replacement for my whacking great 23mm 1.4. I STILL get muddled up when referring to these lenses as I'm always thinking in terms of 35mm equivalents. :bang:

I can live quite happily with the 35/1.4 that I have as I find it perfectly fast enough for me. A smaller 23mm f/2 would be more welcome to me.

I wish they had made a 35/1.4 mkii with faster AF. I never heard anyone say they were put off by the size of that lens, and I'd rather not lose a stop of speed. This is a weird addition to the lens system that doesn't address users' feedback online.

I do, too. IQ from the 35/1.4 is superb. Many people were comparing it favorably to much more expensive lenses.
Personally, I would have much rather seen the AF speed adressed while keeping a 35/1.4 specification.
But the new 35/2 will be welcome, too, especially on a small body like the X-T1 without battery grip.
