Anybody who has to sift through 8 gigabytes of pictures after a shoot has my sympathy. I thought 1gb was bad enough already.

didier,
please note, those cards are not SD, but SDHC.
as long as epson does not state that the R-D1s is SDHC compatible, i'd assume it will not work.
cheers,
and have much fun in 中国. (i just returned from there)

Ouch. Do you know if this could be upgraded by firmware only?sebastel said:please note, those cards are not SD, but SDHC.

Thanks Sebastian. I'm looking very forward. Beijing, Hangzhou, Wuxi and Shanghai will be my destinations. That's why I cioud use a 8 GB card as i don't want to carry a 1.7kg Epson P2000 storage device with me...sebastel said:and have much fun in 中国. (i just returned from there)

aaaaaaaargh!
want to go there immediately!
since u are in wuxi anyway, maybe going to suzhou for one or two days is a good idea.
visit some of the local gardens, and especially tiger hill i recommend.
i am not certain whether SDHC can be made available with firmware/driver update. up to now, the opinion was that older devices will remain incompatible (source: digitalkamera.de).
as for storage device: i use a cheap 40GB cardreader/file storage device (like the jobo giga one). that one has been quite reliable since more than one year now, and it is small and light. i got mine in shanghai, btw, in an electronic mall in northern sichuan road.

cheers,
sebastian

8GB of JPEGs of 6MP (in "normal" mode), yeah, that's a shatloid, but if you're shooting RAW, well, not as much as it seems. Lots of work to follow, true...tetrisattack said:Anybody who has to sift through 8 gigabytes of pictures after a shoot has my sympathy. I thought 1gb was bad enough already.

I have a very early X-Drive that I use. I replaced the 20GB disk with a 60GB and find it works well. Accepts numerous types of memory card. You can run it off a rechargeable internal battery or for extended use use the battery charger. They're light weight and available with or without a picture display screen. Mine doesn't have the screen.
There are newer models than mine. Have a look at www.powerinnumbers.com.au which is where I purchased and follow the Oline Store link at the bottom of the page for specs and details.

If your camera is not compatible with the new SDHC standard of the new plus 2 gig cards your camera may only recognize 2 gig of storage as being available for use. No actual experience but just from scanning the internet for info.

My Canon SD700IS (primo digital P&S) doesn't recognize 4GB cards. It calls them "locked" and will not read or write to them. It can only handle up to 2GB.
