It has been suggested by several members that a new ADVANCED POINT N SHOOT forum be created for advanced fixed lens P&S cameras such as the Leica X1, Sigma DP1/2, Canon s90, Ricoh GRx, etc -- as well as advanced film P&S cameras.

What do you think? Please vote.

No. Way too many equipment type/brand specific sub-forums as it is.

How about a forum for advanced film P+S cameras?

I think its a good idea, not something I would use but I was trying to advise a friend this morning on buying an advanced P&S and was surprised how far these cameras have come in the past few years since I last used one.

Good idea - for me, the Ricoh dedicated forums elsewhere are very slow it's hardly worth checking them.
Here the active threads page would quickly highlight activity.

GR-1s and GRD-III ( sold GRD-I,II ) and a Contax T-iX ( best APS camera ever )

so a fixed lens point and shoot is advanced and a zoom lens point and shoot is n00b? seems a bit pretentious doesn't it?

btw the Canon S90 is not a fixed lens camera

I vote no.

It seems to me the P&S forum is already for advanced point and shoots. Was the P&S forum supposed to be for cheap, low quality, fully automatic cameras only? Who wants to talk about those?

Agreed, we already have one, no need to split it up because all types of point and shoots are already discussed there. Leave it be.

Have to agree here. If the P&S forum is bursting on its seams, then we can talk about redirecting the traffic.

Is it, though?

And while we're at it...

Voted No.

And while we're at it, can '120 RF's' and '120 RF's Modern' be combined into one category??

I vote yes, but really I suggest renaming the existing forum to better reflect the quality of the cameras in these discussions "Quality compacts'? "high end PnS"?

I own many of these under appreciated gems. Wherever possible they are a lot more than simply "point and shoot." Exhibit 1 - the Hexar AF, though I concur Your Honour, that it is hardly a compact!

Voted NO based on the fact that the examples listed are pretty much advanced digital p&s. I don't see myself coming to RFF looking for info and discussions about point and shoot digital cameras.

If it's more towards film advanced P&S, I'd vote for YES.

Agreed. It already takes long enough to scroll through the different sub-fora; all we need to do is change the sub-title of the existing P&S forum to make clear it includes the GXR etc.
