My 2 Cents.....(worth everything you have paid, no refunds)
My 2 Cents.....(worth everything you have paid, no refunds)
All
I was one of those folks who have requested we give an option for folks who are becoming more and more dedicated to the design point regardless of the capturing technology (read film, glass plates or digital). I really do not want to say what is an Advanced P&S as it’s too limiting. Might be a 4x5 Crown Graphic, Bessa L CV 25/4 combo, GRD III, X-1 or a Sigma DP1x. Is an old Kodak Pony or Brownie the same as a GRD?
My request was to allow those using a higher quality P&S camera have a place to share ideas, experience and shots. While a good photographer can get great picture with any camera s/he knows
Well part of the problem is that other than P&S there is no forum for geeks like me. I don’t see what the problem is with more forums. We see all the entries so why not?
I do and so do other people here who do some really good work (e.g. malland (aka Mitch)). I used a Bessa L with a CV 25/4 which was a true P&S and while it’s partially plastic it’s not really cheap. What about the Ziess SW with their 21 Distagon 15/2.8, it’s P&S and there is NOTHING there that is cheap.
It’s not that it’s bursting at the seams, it’s more to get a place where we can hang out. Acknowledging that there is more to these cameras than you would find on a Holga. There is a separate group for Diana / Holga / Pinhole / Polaroids. Aren’t Dianas and Holgas P&S cameras?
The discussions are here already. I am suggesting that we be somewhat more inclusive than exclusive. There are many great P&S film cameras and more P&S digitals come out all the time.
Any autofocus/manual focus camera that is not an SLR/TLR/RF. It can be anything, fully manual to fully automatic. Advanced is up to the poster. I would not kick anyone out (as has happened to us trying to post in the m4/3s forum).
But look at the 120 space. You have 120 RF, Folders, Modern, Bessa III. Isn’t the Bessa III a Modern 120 RF Folder?
I think that issue is more the baggage that comes along with Point-N-Shoot from the 1980’s. This style of shooting and the cameras people are using (read adapted, selected or were designed for this style) have become more capable of producing some world class results.
If you look at the Ricoh GXR. If you expand the m4/3s and Micro PK Cameras forum what about the APS-C modules have bigger sensors than 4/3s. When the X-1 ships where will it go?
I’ve always felt this forum was inclusive and respectful. Not feeling that way today.
Thanks for the try. Please leave voting open for another week. I live in Chicago and I am going to try and dig up a couple of votes……

No. Way too many equipment type/brand specific sub-forums as it is.

No....Was the P&S forum supposed to be for cheap, low quality, fully automatic cameras only? Who wants to talk about those?

Have to agree here. If the P&S forum is bursting on its seams, then we can talk about redirecting the traffic.

Voted NO based on the fact that the examples listed are pretty much advanced digital p&s. I don't see myself coming to RFF looking for info and discussions about point and shoot digital cameras.
If it's more towards film advanced P&S, I'd vote for YES.

No So will the 'ADVANCED Point N Shoot' forum cover any compact camera with manual ability? What exactly constitutes and advanced P&S? Fully manual, semi auto?......

Voted no.
There are advanced P&S as well as entry ones. Same is true for inter-changable RFs, SLRs, etc., and we don't distinguish those.
